AS YOU already know, the Sony Playstation 3 was launched in Japan to huge fanfare and huge queues.
Only 80,000 units were shipped to Sony's home territory causing much
furore and an abundance of poor Chinese buying up consoles for
re-selling - see this Kotaku.com report for a first hand account of the problems.
This certainly isn't a new phenomenon as previous launches have
encountered similar problems, but ensuring substantial stock was on
offer on day one would probably have avoided these problems. As it is,
every new shipment that arrives will ensure infighting and dodgy
dealing until a steady flow of supply is offered.
