I just got UT2004 and installed/played it. The load process is horribly slow due to the 6CD's took around 30 mins to install the game. Once installed it takes it several mins to load, not sure if thats regular for UT never tried the others. Once in it has a nice menu setup and game options. Played several rounds and saw no glitches or frezing.. Looks pretty sweet.. I'm not a big gamer but i would have to recommend everyone try it. Don't let the 6CD's scare you.

How can this game be 3 gigs?
i didnt think it would be that in depth.

UNREAL.TOURNAMENT.2004 - 4.11 GB (4,415,045,762 bytes)
UNREAL.TOURNAMENT.2004.DVD - 78/50MB You do the math on that one.
Its rather huge...

Keep to the rules.
On a lighter note i am amazed that it is 4 + gigs... is it worth it Stang? Does the 'detail' show up in the game?

To be such an immensely large game, thus far the largest software I've even seen, it better have amazing detail. Working on compression isn't one of the best options though, as compression tends to lower detail alot. I hope it's just not a free hard drive space stealer.
Well, it should be good. The other largest game I played was Flight Simulator 2003 Professional, a 3-CD, 1.2GB game. And the detail in it was amazing.
But, who knows. I played Unreal Tournument Game of the Year edition, and after downloading mods and a few extra maps, I made the grand total size of the game 2.6GBs.
Let's just hope that it's worth it enough to go and get so that you don't have to go and get another one. I mean, what do they have left to upgrade again?

i was more referring to Stang, but by talking about breaking the rules we are breaking the rules by going off topic so lets end it here.

hmmm...6 cds seems extremely lame to me any way u see it. If u check from the demo, the graphics arent good enough that it should take that many cds. ALso u cant really judge amount of cds to quality of graphics, its probably the same as in the demo with more skins and maps and such..maybe more options. if u check the matrix game, it was like 3 or 4 cds and the graphics on it were absolutely s#&t so it could be hte same for this game.

Well i have to say that the graphics are of course better then the demo as the demo is limited to just normal on most of the detail settings. If you have a good enough computer yeah the graphics are amazing i dont know if you can really dissagrea with that if you do it may be a first. Well 100 maps take up space and 2 dvd's sound good to me i'm not worried about 5Gb.

i know u can set it on high..but trust me ..the difference wont be DoomIII like...and if its not, then its not worth the 5 gb.

Mar 17 2004, 12:43 AM
Well its a completely different engine/game type doom 3 could never reproduce the speed and environment that UT engine does... Doom 3 engine is amazing for what it does in that game but it really woudnt work for UT you cant compare these two games in any way. As for size well games arent going to get smaller and only larger.

no duh they dun work the same..im just saying for 6 cds (aka 2 dvds ) they better have doom 3 graphics...even if the gameplay is not the same. Bad compression..thats my thought. 100 maps..what for..

Mar 17 2004, 01:10 AM
Well then install it delete most of the maps and that should save you the space I guess. I just dont care about the space it could be 10Gb and i still wouldnt care all that much. Doom3 graphics? well i guess they do for the kind of game it is.
Dont they give you options when install to install full or custom?
