Well my member number is 70...of course its 70 after that evil hacker pissed up geeknewz. But we learnt from that to create back-ups. Since the restart of geeknewz its been even better than before. The addition of customizing windows is a great idea but only if more people contributed! Then we where on TechTV and since then about every 5 hours a new member has signed up. We have got a few really excellent new members lately including anakinsolois added to the already brilliant news team. Well now we are coming to 1000 members, an amazing achievement which i hope actz/bb/team has thought of something good to celebrate with. I think a few people have thought oh who needs geeknewz when i have neowin, well in my oppinon neowin sucks. It has to many members, you can't keep track of it... and well geeknewz it loads better!


At the time of post the member count was: 963...37 until 1000.

Due to the edit time out i wont be able to edit it slowly jumping and counting down numbers but nevermind!

I wonder who the 1000th member will be?

How about we not bash our affiliate, Neowin, ok?

As for celebration, I'm going ot buy more aspirin and stock up on heavily caffeinated soda.

I was going to post a thread on this the minute we hit 1000 members, that is, if I were home to whitness it.

BB, i'm sorry, its just my opinion. The reason i dont like neowin is the same reason as you don't like msn messenger, its to bloated... i forget they where our affiliate.. last time i looked they wern't, though i think i remember actz saying something about that. Interesting idea BB. Sorry to spoil your fun PHP.

1000 members next week hopefully its great to get back to a closer member count to what we used to have. I'll save the celebration for when the 10, 000 member joins hehe but yeah things are going well and as usual if you have request or suggestions please post them in the appropriate section.

This site wouldnt exist without all you dedicated members on the forums so thanks for keeping GeekNewz alive. We learnt from our mistakes and this time around we arent going anywhere.

Just think, the 1 millionth member may not even be born yet. Think, somebody over in Canada could be having a kid right now, and that kid will grow up to be a computer geek, and then that kid will come to Geek Newz and be our 1 millionth member ....

Maybe I'm thinking to far ahead or something...

Call me the pessimist but I don't think we'll ever reach a 1,000,000th member... of course, if we hit the jackpot with the affiliates and continue to be publicised on programs like TheScreensavers, we could.

I expect they will know, because when they sign up i think that they may get a few pm's congratulating them as the 1,000th member. I don't think we will get 1,000,000 members and i don't hope we will, that will make geeknewz bloated and to big. Also i expect all the users will slow it down, that would suck! Maybe a few more people in the IRC first

I'd imagine we'd have to migrate to a larger, faster server (like Neowin... I forgot their specs), or a few Apple G5 with Dual 2GHz processors, up to 8GB ram.
