Full Version: Notice on Posting
GeekNewz Community > General > Chit Chat
Deftone
I've just been contemplating the forums for a while now and decided to post this sort of as a notice. Let me say before any confusion is made, that this is more of a friendly reminder than a rule, but it would be nice for it to be followed. Lately it seems, even though measures have been taken to stop useless posting (such as removing post count on the chitchat thread) that people (no names) still post comments such as "agreed" or ":P" without any real reference to the previous comment. I am in fact guilty of having done a bit of this myself in the past. However, i think since we are a growing community, that we should mature as well in how we present ourselves to those viewing GN. It is my request, and that of other mods that when posting you look carefully at what you are going to post think twice before posting something that is really not going to aid in the development of the posting. I've discussed this with Bangbang a bit and he gave me the go to present this idea to you guys.

On another note, I wanted to congratulate you all for staying 90% on topic tongue.gif and not making us mods stress too much. Keep it up.

Def.

I am guilty of this crime. But not to such effect that i am flooding the place with total rubbish. I have noticed people who are worst, well one in particular, but like you i won't mention names. I keep on seeing these double posts which are inside 2 minutes.. whenever i do it by accident i edit one saying could a mod please delete this. Perhaps people should do that more, at least it means they are sorry.

I am also guilty of this ..

Well Vampyric,

The thing is that by posting your reply then..

Has completly defeated the whole point of Deftones post, that is the type of post that he is talking about the dumb ones which completly just repeat what someone just said, without actually going into the point of it. So yes, as everyone can see, you are guilty.

thank you for the help gofik although im sure u didnt want it to sound like u were passing such a harsh judgement. I just simply want it to be something to be viewed generally, we all have to start with our slate clean if i can put it that way. Although i would preffer from having comments with 4 words or less, if u read the post, that is all i need, it does show up on the post how many times its been read, i do not need 3 word confirmations to know so tongue.gif

Lol, when I say something like this, it's seen as a crazy rant.

Anyways, this isn't about pointing fingers, we have all done it. Some people are very direct, like myself, and don't have alot to post. Vamp's post up above is not too bad as it pertains to the topic. Posting something like "haha that sucks" in a thread about someone asking for software help is a different story.

Just pointing out this was one of the original rules that I wrote up:

4) No spamming: This includes filling the board with posts that contribute nothing to the community or posts that are not on topic with the respective thread.

In actuality, it was just never enforced enough, but I will be more strict for now on.
Deftone
thank you for the support bb. Part of the reason you get rants and I dont its coz im nicer about it, or maybe I embelish the things i say too much, hehe. Either way, Im glad i missed whichever conversation these 2 had between each other, and thanks for covering that for me.

As i said before, I just want geeknewz to grow thats all, a little contribution from everybody and we shall get there.

The strict enforcers will always be hated. That enforcer is 90% of the time you, bb. I try to stay away from useless posts at all costs but it is frustrating to me when people's posts are filled with slang and contain little in the way of a reply. It is good of you to post this, Deftone, and maybe by enforcing the rules more we can control this. I think we are doing a pretty good job overall.

noted... and i understand wink.gif
Deftone
okay I am sorry guys but I am closing this post up and it will become a read only since even in your understanding (which i do indeed appreciate) you are defeating the point of my comments.
