yeah i read about this a couple of days ago the ad has a kid singing the lyrics from Lose Yourself and apparently they never actually where given the right to use it. Seems like a pretty big mistake on apples part.

So when do we throw a party for Apple?!

You think they could come up with a better song to represent their computers/company. Yeah some teens might like Eminem (I really don't care for him, but that's my opinion), but adults buy computers too and eminem doesn't exactly have the best reputation. Why would you want someone who has a poor reputation to be the image that customers get when they think of your computer? Sure some people forget advertising, and just go with what they have already owned and known, but advertising does draw in (or push away) a lot of other people.

I think there are several reasons for why you would pick Eminem. First of all, record sales show that he is popular amongst a large group of teenagers. Of course you could never find someone who appeals to everyone therefore you go with the majority or proven. As for the choice of song, the song carries a very good meaning to it and I'm sure at the time it was probably pretty high up in the charts. If I were making this kind of commercial, I don't see why I wouldn't choose Eminem.

As for the part about using the song without permission...I think they had the kid singing it to try and avoid legal issues. I think it's a pretty underhanded tactic. But then again coming from Apple, I'm not too surprised.

These are the same people who sold computers a few years back, promising they would be compatible with OS X. But then as OS X came out, Apple refused to make it compatible with the older computers they had sold and while promising compatibility. I read this in Maximum PC Magazine, there was a whole lawsuit thing and the people who bought the older computers were compensated. I forgot what the compensation was...But from my memory...I remember it being really crappy.

Yeh he is really popular, i also see the point in that parents won't be encouraged by his music to buy an apple pc. My opinion is that he is an idiot!

As Nintendo has sadly found out...What kids want and what parents buy for them has little or no relevance to what the parents think...Especially if they think the product is fine but the spokeperson is not. It doesn't matter who's selling what to the parents as long as the kids want it.

For example if parents really wanted a console that is less violent and such...They would've all bought a gamecube...We all know that's not the case. Also, I firmly believe that a lot of the times parents give kids money to buy whatever they want...Parents have little or no say in the purchases anyways.

And...Who are you calling an idiot? Eminem? Or the CEO of Apple?

i think its funny!!!! they really deserve it if they did that

I just assumed he was calling Eminem an idiot but I may be wrong. unsure.gif Parents seem to be growing more lenient when it comes to violent games. I see little impact of violent games on me because, obviously, I know it's only a game. I don't know about some of you but a game is in no way going to convince me to go murder someone... maybe if the person's idiotic emotionally it would (then I'd just say it only enforced a preconceived notion and they acted).

As for Eminem... I've never heard his music but I'm sure it's similar to all the other music of this genre; pointless/idiotic screaming and cheasy sound effects. If your going to say something philosophical and not keep repeating the same phrase over and over again I'll listen, otherwise don't bother attracting my attention. People steal his music off the Internet all the time although he probably figures since he has much more control over this situation he'll give it a shot.

People may be stealing his music off the internet all the time...But they aren't using it to make money like Apple is doing.

If you have some time I would recommend reading a few of Eminem's song's lyrics. They aren't just all about drug dealers killing people or about him being a rich guy with girls surrounding him and how much he gets laid.

His song Lose Yourself tells people to believe in themselves and not to give up on their dreams. I hardly call this pointless screaming or idiotic sound effects. And if you do find him a little repetitive...It might be because it's the chorus. tongue.gif

Another song called, Stan doesn't really carry a message...But it's more like a story. It's a story about an obsessed fan.

Eminem really is great at writing lyrics if only people would give him a chance and listen to him. He's also been sued for writing songs that people felt influenced violent behaviour. For some reason people were blaming his songs for all the bad that was happening in the world. Then Emninem writes an anti drug song called, Kids yet...People still do drugs.

I do think he has quite some talent, and can ryhme rather well, and make sense while doing so. I got to like him with the first cd, when he was somewhat aggressive, but it seemed to me in a way, that later he kinda apologized for his comments as they were causing him trouble. Either way though, I like it that someone can defy what most people find truth in being naive.

the song Stan was directed at the many incidents of fans who wanted to immitate him falsely (falsely i say because in his lyrics he might mention wrist cutting but he wont do it in real life), so Eminem directed a song at them in the hopes it would stop.

how about you try putting more insight into your posts?

This was a dumb mistake by Apple. They should just know better.

I've head Stan and it's actually in my Foobar playlist... I don't mind it so much. I don't think music has such a great influence over people; convince them to do something moronic, I know it doesn't me but I can't speak for everyone. Someone who would do such a thing (ie: cut their own wrists) is just stupid; an obsessed fan I'd say. It kind of boils down to the videogame violence effect. Are you going to blow up a mall or commit murder because of a game... I should sure as hell hope not. If you would you need some mental help.

isnt itunes owned by apple?
i think slim got a bit greedy, he already has lots of money
and if some one uses his song (which by the way is an oscar winner)
that shoudnt be a problem
actz
hehehe the iTune comments are for all the people that said an eminem song wouldnt make them buy a apple computer read the first few post. Anyways as far as coming down on the problem i'm sure its a lot to do with his lawyers but if he slacks off with one thing then before you know it people will abuse the rights of ownership.

you are forgetting copyrights and such here Mad... Artists of any kind must make sure their work is not reproduced against their will, coz otherwise someone else is making proffit out of what is that artist's living. Eminem has a lot of money yes, but not every artists does, and everyime u use their stuff, u are taking away their chance to make a living.
