Okay, following up with more of a topic that I am personally interested in. Those into science like GT and others might be able to answer this for me, but then again those with their minds into other things might be capable of doing so as well. I read up a while ago that although as humans, we tend to look at emotions as part of deciding whether we like someone or not, that in reality, us having a "crush" on someone is determined by the attraction our eyes find in the symetry and build of the other person's body. This does not mean that they have "good looks", it just means the shape of how they are is somehow attractive in shape to our brain. Any of you heard of this theory before? If so can u explain further on how it works?

I ask that this be taken seriously, and that maybe you can come up with interesting insights.

I actually saw something about this on the discovery channel. It's not a shape specific to each individual person, rather, geometry that is generally viewed as being attractive by members of the opposite sex. They actually have people who use a mesh design on a computer to match a person's face up to it and see how attractive they are geometrically.

I heard of it, and read some about it. A symetric shape stands for good DNA. For some reason, that's actually it. And as we all know, sex is mixing dna, and to survive, we need the best dna we can get. So that's why it seems more attractive to us, though our taste for symetry is as good as gone, now that we are brainwashed biggrin.gif That's another theory : conspiracy theory wink.gif Anyway, I thought that was the explanation

PS : I thought you might find this interesting too : people often prefer someone of the other sex that has approximatively the same face as theirs. I don't think I can phrase it as good as discovery did, but women like men that have some identical facial points.

That's interesting and seems very concrete, therefore there's not much that I can add to the discussion. I suppose that makes sense, although rather peculiar. A girl at my school keeps attracting my attention, I suppose she kind of looks like me in a girlish way. It's a rather odd reaction... something interesting about her face.
psYchotic
Hehe, that's a great feeling isn't it? When you like a girl a lot smile.gif Anyway, I wanted to add one more thing to what I said :
Though nature seems to control us, we shouldn't forget that love is something very strong, I think even stronger than nature. So this theory might be true, on the other hand, that doesn't mean asymetrical people don't stand a chance. So to all the symetrical people : don't think your look is the only thing that counts wink.gif

im aware of this, i just found the topic interesting. That we are geometrically attached to someone, then also learn to like their emotions.

Also smells too smile.gif women find the smell of sweat atractive for like 4-5 days a month any other time it stinks smile.gif I also heard that yeah geometry has something to do with how attractive some one is although that could be based on perception of the individual more then anything. For instance back in the old days (up untill around 1950ish) women who where skinny where seen as unatractive and women with a little meat on there bones where seen as healthy and desireable.

Hmmmm.... Trying to get me to think now eh? tongue.gif

I guess it could be possible that our minds "like" specific shapes and sizes. The same is true for colors or smells, even sounds. If we like it, well, I guess we would want it, or more of it. I guess the way a person looks, by shape, could be a factor as well.

But, that's not the only thing that could be a factor. What about the sounds? If the person's voice is "good", so to speak, wouldn't that be a factor as well?

Or, maybe the color. Maybe you like a non-tanned person, or maybe a heavily (sp?) tanned person.

Let's not forget... smell. Well, not particularly a natural body smell, but maybe the person has a nice perfume on (or cologne), and that particular smell is that of which you enjoy. Well, even if you like the smell of, say, pizza, I don't think they make sprays that smell like that...

There could be a deeper psychological perception into this as well. As psYchotic said, the build of a person could resemble better DNA structures, and, maybe somehow our mind can "see" such DNA by the appearance of the person, and creates an emotion that creates a feeling of joy, so to speak.

I think I'll stop there for now...

From my psychology classes...I learned that an attractive face is usually one that is most common. There was a study where they took a bunch of faces...put them together...like the average...and people found that face to be most attractive above all the other faces.

There are other research that feels people are attracted to people who somehow look like themselves...This theory is usually used to be applied to how some people prefer to find a partner who is of the same race.

With recent topics like same-sex marriage and this...You guys really should take some psyc courses if you get a chance!

psychology is definately facinating. Will we ever trully understand the human race.

I have heard of that theory as I am greatly interested in psychology... also... when you sweat..you let off "aphrodisiacs" which attract people by the chemicals in the sweat..you probably already know this..but some don't...anyway....an attractive a$$ is very common to attract people ...
Deftone
yeah i knew about that, cept I dont find sweat attracts me in the least.
覧Vampyric覧
Sweat does attract..even if you dont see it..because it releases chemicals into the air that will make you think that person is more attractive and stuff liek that...
Deftone
hehe...i like to thikn that when i work out its my muscles that do the talking and not my odour tongue.gif
覧Vampyric覧
Odor has nothing to do with it...lol..its not the smell..its the other chemicals that affect your brain somehow...

Human sweat contains phermones, just like what most insects use to communicate with. It actually tells the oppisite sex whether your a healthy prospective mate. I watched a program on the discovery channel or health channel about this. They actually put the sweat from a healthy male that women were attracted to on a fat slob (much like myself tongue.gif) and believe it or not, when the fat slob would walk down the street, women would turn heads to keep him in sight. Was pretty interesting to watch.
Deftone
lol thats funny. Why havent they made just tons of perfumes with this phermone mixture?

Haha good question, Deftone. I'm taking psychology, Kenut, although my teacher is, let's say... not very good overall. The videos prove to be very interesting though. I always have found an interest in psychology even before taking the class.

Anyway, I was sort of glancing unsuspectingly off and on at this girl I was talking about earlier. Would it be logical to say that since I find her rather attractive she would think the same about me. I was thinking about this at the time. If I find her DNA, shape (her face), interesting then it may be because she looks similar to me, so therefore, obviously, I look similar to her. I'm just trying to understand what's fixating about her face.
Deftone
this is not always true however ph. Sometimes we fixate ourselves on things and it has nothing to do with symetry. It wouldnt hurt to try though. Being shy never helps. The worst that can happen is she'll say no to going out, at which point nothing was broken since u dunno her.
