Well see. Other than my computer, music is my life. It can explain what I cannot, it can endure what I cannot. It was there before i existed, it will continue to be there when im gone. It rules everyday life, and has a portent that lets you carry on. Music is the direct feeding source for the soul. Any further explanations? Feed me some caffeine.

That's an awfully good reason, Deftone. I find it rather quiet without music playing but when it's not playing I don't notice and/or think about it because I'm far too engrossed in my computer.

As long as it doesn't contain angsty teen lyrics or is a product aimed directly for teens for mass consumption by a major record label. Music isn't plastered all over MTV or radio stations' air waves.

music is whatever makes you unleash what you feel inside, the rythm that drives right to the bone, goes through you adn you get goosebumps from just hearing it. It is meaningful to you and it helps ya go through life day by day. For different people its different music.

so snocked, if I say Slipknot, Dimmy Borgir, System of a Down, and all kinds of metal, you'd say it's music? I love metal, and I don't understand how some people can say it's not music. If I took the dictionary, then you'd all find out that everything you hear on the radio, tv, etc. really IS music. Like actz pointed out, it's weird for someone to say that something is not music because they don't like it. I know that if my parents hear something like techno/house/trance/hardcore, they'd say it's not music. That really pisses me off. I don't say I love trance, but I recognize as music. When I whistle, it's music too. Actually, there are a lot of things that you can call music. Everything that has melody/rythm or a combination of both is music IMO

It seems to me that many people use music as a way to fit in. Oh, everyone's listening to this and since it's the "in" thing, I'll listen to it too. It's the complete opposite with me.

Feb 21 2004, 06:51 PM
but if you dont listen to things just because everyone else is or listen to things everyone else isnt... how is that different? you're allowing the norm to control what you listen to. Listen to what you like, music is music bad or not.

I'm not saying it isn't music because I don't like it. Technically it is music, but the lowest form of music. It's made to sell directly to teens because it's easily disposable. All popular music is.
actz
Feb 21 2004, 11:52 PM
well once again that's just your opinion but your just lucky your music isnt popular if not you may have to stop listening to it.
I dont know I listen to everything and can enjoy it all for what it is but for the past year i've been only listening to stuff that isnt well known or on TV and i'm loving it. Its hard to find the CD's in the record stores but they are always available to purchase online.

It's not really my opinion; it's how it works. Nothing is lower than music just made as another product towards teens because of what's currently "hip".
The music I listen to will never be popular and it can't. It doesn't fit the mold.

Simple and uncreative? I hate to say it, but your OWN thoughts reflect upon that nonetheless. I guess I can say that your post was pointless and not needed.
Look at yourself before calling others hypocrites. I cannot believe that you would cut down a member so badly.
You're really putting yourself in a bad position. The fault is your own, and the fall is your own.

The way you put it just doesnt make sense. Its not even really an opinion all your saying is that anything produced for teens is horrible. Well i'm sure many teen's listen to your music and you probably did as well just not in the masses I also want to say that many of those artist did not just decide to have music that appeals to the teens but thats more of a culture move/change that has made certain music popular nothing else.

I never said anything made for teens is horrible. I'm talking about genuine music, and music made for teens to buy up helplessly and saturate MTV is NOT quality/genuine music.
Artists are limited by their label and a label will only allow music they approve to be released.

Your obviously not fully aware of 50 Cent history for example, your last line only proves that you are a bit close minded when it comes to music and peoples opinions.
Anyways back to music as you can see people feel pretty strong about what they like and dont like. I feel fortunate that i can appreciate it in all forms from classical to techno. Doesnt mean i have either in my ipod hehehe

I also enjoy classical too and one or two rap songs.

that comment was really not necessary. Please you guys, I made the topic not to discuss the different genres of music and which you consider as such, it was created to express your opinions on the subject of whether music is important to you or not and how it makes you feel. Sorry if it did not appear so clear before, but I would like that to be discussed if anything at all. Otherwise I'll just close the thread down coz I think my point was either taken care of or not paid attention to.
