I would have thought we'd have had a poll like this before but I don't remember one on the board... maybe on the frontpage.
Of course, I use Opera (7.22 Build 3221). I'm not impressed by Opera 7.50 Pr2.

Opera 7.50.3494 I've tried pretty much every browser and still nothing compares. I actually prefer 7.23 but dont feel like switching back.

Yes, it is a linux browser for the GNOME desktop environment. I believe the head programmer for epiphany used to be the head guy for galeon(another fine GNOME browser) but he thought it was getting too bloated, so he started epiphany.

I use opera. Actually I don't know what to use anymore. I tried quite a few, like firebird, mozilla, ie, k-meleon, but I'm still not sure which one is the best. Maybe it's an idea for another poll

I'm gonna make one

Yes, it is based on the mozilla rendering engine just like galeon. It's similar to mozilla but I find it runs a little faster and smoother than mozilla and galeon. If you want to check out the homepage for epiphany, its

Yeah, I use Firefox now too, and it rocks! The only thing is that there are still some stuff that it can't do. Like using the menu on the left here :
www.nttb.nl/gelreBut nonetheless, it's as fast as can be, and minimalistic, I love it. Too bad the options menu is minimalistic too...

Yes Firefox is fast.. and it's a browser where you make it adapt to your surfing style ( with the extensions) instead of you adapting to it..

I use Avant but have used Firefox before...I just don't like the way it "builds" the pages. I would rather wait a few extra seconds for IE/Avant to build it then show it. Is there a way around that?.. I would like to use Firefox...

I avoid any IE based browsers link MyIE2, Avant etc as they are after all still IE.
I have Opera and Firefox installed now and Much prefer Firefox.
For being a "beta" browser (0.8) Firefox is and will be the best browser. Cant wait till it matures to 1.0.

The site you've mentioned works in Opera and there are ways to enhance the functionality of the Options menu. I've tried a few of the extensions you see. It should have the word "Options" in it.

Here's my opinion of Opera.
Opera :: faster than Firefox with the downside of using more resources, more efficient transfer panel, uses .ini files to allow for easy personal customization, etc.

Speed depends on what kind of connnection u use. Im using a LAN connection which gives me a measly 4 KBps, but itz unlimited, so im happy wit it 4 now. I find Firefox to be MUCH faster on my connection than Opera 7.22 is.

on GeekNewz... when I'm browsing with Firefox it doesn't use the color for the staff member name ( ex. PHPfantic: Red , BB: green ) it just shows them as blue.... like the normal users.... this doesn't really make sense to me... at all .. IE still shows the colors.. but not on FF

Firefox wins.

I don't want to have to switch and the main reason for that is I just like the layout of Opera more. Also, this new skin I'm using (Zeus 02) is excellent.

there are some really great skins available, though i dont much like skinning or changing any thing. My OS, WMP and browser all have default skins.

My moto is: Stick to defaults as little as possible. Of course, your hardware should have some influence over customization levels.

Mar 26 2004, 03:15 AM
You can use an app by the name of
Hotbar which you can use to apply putrefying tiles to the main toolbar. As for skins... there are certain aspects of the interface which you can customize using pre-exported shell32 hacks (ie: GANT shell32). This will customize the button's graphics and such but not the color scheme.
I don't know.

A word of advice, DON"T USE HOTBAR
Description
Marketed as a program to add graphical skins to IE toolbars, it also adds its own toolbar with context-sensitive link/search buttons.
Distribution
Bundled with older releases of iMesh and other free software; more recently, advertised through junk e-mail purporting to be a Microsoft upgrade to Outlook.
What it does
Advertising
Yes. HotBar's toolbar grows buttons on the left-hand side leading to advertisers' and/or paid search sites dependent on the site you are currently viewing.
Privacy violation
Yes. HotBar sends the address of every web site you visit to its controlling servers along with a unique ID that would enable your web usage habits to be tracked. Some sites are monitored more closely, with full URLs and/or data entered into forms being sent to HotBar.
Security issues
Yes. Hotbar can silently download and execute arbitrary code from its controlling server, as an update feature.
Stability problems
None known.
Hotbar adds graphical skins to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, and Outlook Express toolbars and adds its own toolbar and search button. Adware.Hotbar can send the browsing history to various servers, along with a unique ID to track browsing habits.
