I think, and I've always thought the reason for this was because it takes longer display the whole page or any of it at all while Opera displays the page quicker but is loading images at the same time. I would still rather stick to Opera. Don't hurt me actz [braces for impact

tried firebird/fox - can find nothing in it at this stage that isn't equalled by mozilla vanilla version.

Apr 26 2004, 03:10 AM
Well theyre both based on the same source code (initially at least). So performance wise, it should be similar. Also, speed differences are more noticeable when on dial up. Firefox basically has a different interface and a different set of features, and is supposedly lighter on sys resources.

indeed - the gecko engine, however the newer fox is supposed to handle it differently in order to facilitate speed improvements: it's not just supposed to be a new 'visual' experience.
therefore their base engine isn't supposed to provide comparative speeds, this being one of my points.
beyond this, on dial-up and dsl i have found mozilla to be an overall 'better' (?!) browser for reasons listed.

I don't use Mozilla but I was wondering the same thing...
Milk
Apr 27 2004, 02:49 AM
sorry - by vanilla I simply meant that it was both the standard 'mozilla' version, (as opposed to mozilla-based clients like firefox), and that it was the formal release project rather than an independently developed build, (more for clarification rather than because it's better than some of the ind. builds released though - it's system specific here).
Vanilla = plain..

I think that out of them all IE is the worst, i can't see why IE is used by (what is it?) 95% of internet users.. actually i can now- its been bundeled in with Windows since... i think Windows 3.1?? Correct?
psYchotic
May 6 2004, 07:44 PM
I don't think it was bundled with 3.1, coz internet wasn't for everyone back then. But it's been quite a long time. It sure is bundled with 95

May 7 2004, 02:48 AM
Definitely not 3.1, IE and Netscape were pay softwares back then.

I use Avant Browser....since I've started using a Tabbed browser, I can't seem to get away from it...
It does seem to lock up alot though.....
Anyone else know of a good Tabbed Browser without too many Issues?
gofikphoenix
Jun 9 2004, 08:48 PM
No, there isn't really one. Apart from Firefox which is semi-tabbed but i find it a lot harder to open new tabs etc and generally use Firefox. Your right Avant does have a lot of issues.

For all you Firefox users:
What do you do about all the sites that are IE only or have content that is IE only? Do you just not worry about it or is there a work-around?
TrickFinlay2
Jun 10 2004, 12:29 AM
i really dont worry about it,but if i really need to i will use IE,which is only used for that and windows updates. Most sites anyway are compatible with any browser

I have this disk it lets me boot up Knoppix and it comes with Konqerer (spelling?) and Mozzila I dont mind them but compared to the simplicity of IE hmmm its not that I dont like tabbed browsing and all that its just that I like to focus on one thing at a time. lol but I have to say Mozilla is awsome it even downloads flash if its needed for a web page and like auto installs

Got firefox 0.9 and its working like a charm, its much faster and has better management interfaces for themes and extensions. I recommend the Nois eXteme theme, it rocks and makes the browser look ultra cool. 1.0 Beta should be out in the first week of June.

Hey!
I use NetCaptor, some will argue it is just a skin for IE, but it's completely different. It conusmes less resources, uses TABBED browsing, pop-up blocker, and grouped favourites that launch automatically. I would strongly reccomend it. I have tried Mozilla, found it to be useless, haven't felt the urge to stray from NetCaptor.

So many browsers, so little time. Personally, NetCaptor Pro is flawless in my opinion. If anyone has a browser that has tabbed browsing, quick dl times, auto-popup killer, and a simultaneous favouries launch (Captor Groups) let me know, I love to try new things.
