hehe i'm not sure but we are talking about a alpha build that wont hit final stage for years so its not surprising that you have problems it may not even be ready/compatible with wireless cards yet.

Longhorn is still in alpha man, so dont expect wireless to be supported for a very long time. As for your network cable, I dunno, as in most cases they work. Ill see if I can get any info, but since there are few Longhorn obly forums, itll be tough

The problem is driver support. Unless Longhorn knows how to communicate with the NIC or the wireless, there is no way it's going to be able to interpret the information being fed into it. You are using a leaked, alpha OS. You shouldn't expect anything to work.

Hello there

Im an advanced PC user and done some extensive tests on Windows Code Name Longhorn build {4074}

Im really here to tell you all DO NOT install it yet. Its very frikkin unstable. The driver database within longhorn is poor. I couldnt get 90% of my bits and pieces installed.

The main issues were failed to detect:

PnP monitor Logix
Geforce 440MX [Nvidia]
Qtec Wireless Network Card
Realtek Audio drivers

Also after the installation of other programs such as:

Mcafee Virus Scanner
Norton System Works 2005
Tune-Up Utilities
StyleXP
Mcafee Firewall
Office 2003

My system became unbarebly slow, ram usuage was at constant 98-100% and cpu for 10-20 mins after boot-up stayed at 100%

My cpu core temp jumped from 38C to 64C in that length of time, so I now DO not us WINDOWS LONGHORN.

I would all wait until a beta version higher than 4xxx or even 5xxx before you will see the true power of this OS.

But I wouldnt get exicted. A friend whos got MSDN membership is claiming reports that the beta testers assigned to Longhorn are pulling there hair out with bugs and compatibility issues. Also issues with the WinFX interface within Longhorn is unstable.

WindowsXP in its alpha days codename Whistler didnt have the bugs and issues Longhorn has. MSDN members are claiming that once Longhorn has been named and is out to the general public, it may take years of updates to full secure longhorns potential. Longhorn is going to be a long-running OS. So be prepared even after the official release to experience problems with newer or seriously older software and you may not fully gain the potential of longhorn for months and even years to come.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Also Windows Longhorn needs to be activated. Because the data-base is limited 90% of network and modem cards will be NULL and you will be unable to connect to the net to activate it, so you will be only able to use Longhorn for 60 days. After that, I guess longhorn will produce an error and wont load up. I will keep you all upto date about longhorn and if any future releases come out, I will inform you all.

You can get Windows Longhorn at your own risk. Remember you will be obtaining an ILLEGAL copy. The newest version is build 4074.

Anyways enough of my chitchat, any questions and ill be happy to help. Im getting as much information from a MSDN longhorn beta tester as I can, next release of Longhorn is due in Feb-March 2005 but as with all developments this could be sooner or as late as the summer. The way Longhorn is taking shape, dont expect longhorn to make a late 2005 release, im guessing mid 2006 at best. Or the boffins at Microsoft could impress me and fix all the bugs withing 10 months tongue.gif

The info was useful, but you shouldve realised that the topic was about 10 months old! Also posting links to a torrent sites, and indirectly to illicit software and it will most probably be removed by a mod
