not to form an argument but i beg to differ. Christmas taken from the words Christ + mass is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, who is the son of God in my religion. I'd say that makes it a more important holiday (even with the commercial stuff added) than St. Valentine's who we could really care less about.

I had 2 valentine's..... My mom and my best friend, I bought them both chinese and a rose and then me and my friend, some of you already know about her, watched 3 movies and talked and ended with a kiss on the forehead, it was a nice day. Stop getting into the commercial aspect of holidays and realize what they're really for. When you care for someone you do things because you want to not because the holiday is "commercialized" and you have to spend money on the person. Gifts or favors from your heart like a foot rub in my case or cooking like M$ are much more appreciated than buying something expensive (unless she a hizzo ). My lady made me cupcakes from scratch... she's awesome.

I totally agree with you troa. Holidays are not for commercial purpose. See it as a possibility to be with your family, with the ones you love. We all like holidays right? It's great to have a little bit of time for yourself and your loved ones.

yeah but as i stated before...you gonna give a rose to your mom and be nice to her because its a holiday? lame i say. You have to be nice to her always, and from time to time display affection to her for all that u owe her (just using this as an example) not coz a stupid holiday says so.

Yeah and then when you dont on holidays when its basically expected then they feel unappreciated. Guys think about holidays differnetly than girls do. Guys couldnt care less really about these sort of holidays but they mean the world to girls. You dont know what I do for my friends and family outside of holidays so dont assume that this is the first time I've done something nice for the people I care about. But holidays you usually do something special, go a bit more out of your way for someone. If you think its lame that I give my mother a rose on valentines when no one else did then fine, it made her day, frankly I dont give a $hit if you think its "lame". Holidays is when people remember what most people are getting. Millions of people got flowers and candy and cards yesterday. My mom got a rose from me because I knew she wouldnt be getting anything else and I knew it would make her happy.

Hey a holiday is whatever someone wants it to be if they like it because of the days off or because it gives some people a push to be nicer to another human then good and if you want to go to church all day and spend it like that then that’s great too. I cant completely agree with you actz im afraid, because I believe thats the reason we are still where we are today with the world, because we tend to think that just letting everyone feel how they please on any topic will avoid confrontation. What it does is builds people with lack of character. Its the same with holidays, we let them tell us when is what and how it should be done, whether u think urself free from all this u are still part of the contributing force to moral decay. If u trully care about the holiday, in this case St. Valentine's...go honor the saint, for all that he did, giving gifts to people while it is nice, can be done any day, and does not necessarily pertain to today.

Well Deftone I sure hope you do it every day but personally I don’t and I could care less about the true meaning of valentines. If you think for one minute that you are the first person to realize that most people don’t celebrate the true meaning of any holiday then you’re are deeply mistaken all you are doing is stating the obvious.

If a holiday brings out some good in people and they buy gift during that time just to see a smile or enjoy themselves then good for them. Give me a break I cant be bothered with the daily gift giving and nobody can afford it so you save up some money for the right time of year to please someone that means your falling into the trap? here's the prob with your point of view Deftone, if one is going to be an angel for all of their lives, their close ones will feel unapreciated because they recieved nothing special on a holiday.

so no matter how nice you are during the year you have to be extra nice during holidays. Besides, you cannot follow up on what you are preaching, you can't tell me that you are nice to everybody every single day of the year regardless of how you feel.

You can't treat others with all the respect they deserve and be good to them when you yourself are feeling bad.

HOlidays work like chain reactions, people are treated EXTRA nicely and so they treat others EXTRA nicely, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I love love I like the idea that everybody loves everybody, though it's an illusion. But hey, people need illusions at some point in their lives! Anyway, the idea of this topic was not to make people argue about holidays. If deftone thinks holidays are commercial crap, so be it. I'd say I agree more with the rest of you, but hey this is a topic about love, and you guys argue :S Come on, cheer up, and don't make such a big point of everything. I think there are some tensions between some people on this forum. I guess the best way to avoid confrontations like this is to ignore each other. I think all of you guys should see that everybody in here is nice.

I do agree with the commercial aspect of Vday but I see no reason for it not to be this way, at least it's not a commercialized method of killing others (a card or rose compared to a knife or shotgun).

i have no problem with the essense of the holiday. BUt the real point of the holiday is to honor St. Valentine who took all his efforts to marry ppl even when it was prohibited my law, risking his life or freedom for others. Thats my point, we miss the goal to holidays and celebrate whatever.

The way you phrased you’re previous comments where almost like an attack at everyone who does something special for valentines. You do things special every day that’s amazing to me i would love to be your friend but like i said taking someone out for diner and just spending a bit extra isn’t something we can do daily so its just the extras that are expected on the day in question. I'm pretty sure you didn’t know the history of Valentine's before I posted it so bringing that up as an argument is great but its also a contradiction because the point that everyone shows a loved one how much they care about them is celebrating what he tried to do in this life were there they know it or not.

I have spent 18 years minus 2 weeks alone. It's something I've accepted for now. But, I still have girls that I'm close friends with, and, even though nothing will happen between us later in life, I'd rather just be friends with them and not mess anything up.

Personally in my family i don’t tell my parents how much i love them daily as its understood and we are all very close even though i don’t see them that often now days since I live overseas.

Anyways I agree with you about the quote above but I just assume most people do things special all year around as its natural to do so. Another point is that some people arent as open as they should be with expressing their feelings to others so in a way days like valentines give them en excuse or a push to try and be more open.

As far as being nice, well everyone that knows me on a personal level knows that i'm nice guy and i care for a lot of people but I’m not perfect. I give them me and everything that is me good or bad and if they don’t like it then they most likely wont be my friend for long. I’m not actually referring to anything you said Deftone but just in general I know people that collect friends well I hate to collect I just keep the real ones around.

i have few friendships, id like to think that the few I posses are good ones. Soemtimes they are, sometimes they arent. I however like to give all of myself to ppl anyway, i dont set favorites anymore. There's no such thing as a best friend. If i had known u one day, u would get the same say as a friend I wouldve hung out with for 3 years straight. I look at the truth that can be drawn from both parts, restraining from taking up a stand for someone coz I know them better. Im not saying any of u does otherwise, just saying how it si with me.
