does overclocking a Geforce MX 4 make a difference at all? I think it isn't worthwhile, apart from all the risks, I've heard it doesn't improve the performance that much!

you should of quoted me... anyway. yes it can. expecially depending on the brand or manufacture. I have a MSI. My default core clock frequency is 250Mhz with a memory clock frequency of 333Mhz. With good default cooling I am capable of 300-320Mhz core clock and 400-?Mhz on my memory clock. There is a difference. Each card has different specs and it will always vary to how much you can push it depending on your cooling techniques and capabilites.
Overclocking a mx440 is not a bad idea because they sucked and were the cheapest most gayest of the Geforce 4 series. I liked my Geforce 2 MX 400 64mb better. Anyway i think the mx440 has a lot more potential.
Rezza
Nov 7 2003, 05:33 AM
well, I just overclocked my MX 440... it's winfast... my core default is 270 and the memory Clock was somewhere around 375, I have the memory on 400 and it seems to be working fine, I think I might keep going up...
I would play an intense game for half an hour to make sure, But I have unistalled them all and can't be reinstalling them.... and I hardly call Worms 3D demo a graphically intense game!
p.s. the sound didn't work on W3D at first, but all of a sudden it started working

I recently upgraded my system and did some more OC

this is current spec.
1.8Ghz P4b @2.1Ghz might take it up to 2.4 but I need to add more case fans...
768 Megs of PC3200 running 1:1 (although I didnt see much advantage in doing that over non syncronous)
Audigy Gamer
2X80GB Western Digital HD's in Raid 1 Stripped (gave a nice 83MBs per second)

DVDRW forgot wich brand.

the 9800 XT bios flash isn't a smart move. people overclock though because they want to be able to increase the antialiasing and anisotropic filtering without losing too much more fps.

Heh, that's what I have in my job.
Every 6 months I have to upgrade all the machines to my own specs.
The only limit to the cost is based on if it will do the job faster.
All the old bits go into our cluster, which eventually we hope will take over the world in an orgy of machine vilolence and destruction.
Adding clusters to this list would be a little unfair, so I don't.

I used to think like that too but then I figured...computer geeks don't need the highend computers because we know how to squeeze every last bit of performance out of our computers. We know what is needed and what is over kill. It all depends on what we do with our computers.

Whoo hoo!!!
I just got a new DVD burner! It's a HP dvd300i...Here are the
specs.
It's not top of the line or anything like that but I got it cheap. This store is trying to get rid of these DVD writers so they are selling them to their employees for $80 Cdn...Plus tax is about $91.60 Cdn...Which comes out to about $70.34 US. I'm not an employee but I know someone who knows someone that is.
Ah...But there is more to it. My friend who knows someone that works for the store, he himeself works for a company that helps sell HP products and he can get me a rebate of $50 Cdn...Which would mean the DVD burner will cost $41.60 Cdn after rebate...which is $31.94 US.

Therefore after I install the DVD writer my new rig specs will be...
Antec PLUS660 Black - Mini Tower with TruePower 330W
Intel Tualatin 1.2 GHz
Abit ST6-RAID
512 MB of SDRAM
Sound Blaster Live! Value
Geforce 2 GTS 32 MB

IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0
Lite-On Black SK-2850 Multimedia Keyboard
AOC Spectrum 7 Glr 17" monitor
Altec Lansing ACS54
3.5" Floppy Drive
And another update to my rig spec is that I overclocked my CD writer from 32x write to 40x write.
