Well I dont know how many of you watch movies like I do but I'm just wondering if anyone has favorite Japanese movies they have seen?
Recently I've been watching a lot of Japanese movies instead of the usual recycled hollywood junk. So I'm looking for any suggestions of good movies that I may have missed, I'll list some that i've enjoyed and recommend. Keep in mind some of these are violent and are rated R.
Ringu (The Ring)
Jian Gui (The Eye)
Batoru rowaiaru (Battle Royal)
Oodishon (Audition)
Akira
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Just saw the movie The Returner tonight but I wasnt all that impressed by it. Just cant think of the name but I have a few more I wanted to add anyways please share your favorite.

Since my family are huge movie buffs i've seen these 2:
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Ringu (The Ring)
I absolutely loved Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and had to see the first movie in the series. I did like it, but not as much as the second one. Just a warning...if you're going to watch Vampire Hunter D (the first movie) please escort your children from the room. Not appropriate for small eyes. I also watched The Ring (both in English and Japanese) and i liked it though i saw some things that weren't very well planned out. If you like the anime Japanese things go check out Blood: The Last Vampire. It's similar to bloodlust and many of the other vampire/anime movies.

If u want real good japanese movies but that are somewhat old take any movie from the director Kurosawa. He is really great at interpretations of life, truth and many other subjects

hehe 1954 Gojira (Godzilla) is awesome i agree its probably the best of all the ones i've seen... for its time its amazing. The latest one for Hollywood was so bad i was laughing during the entire movie hehe... another funny thing happened when i went to see that movie hehehe ahhh ok i'll tell you guys quickly. I went to get popcorn, I was with about 10 friends and when i got back i sat in my seat next to what i thought was my friend and punched him in the shoulder. By this time the light where already dimmed down hehe so he sort of looked over and ignored me then i started talking and calling him names because he was acting weird it took almost 4 min of this before i realized all my friends where just 2 rows in front of me. The guy thought i was obviously psychotic hehehe i just got up and moved then told my friend and of course all of us are laughing at me and pissing everyone off.

For 1954 it did amazing things and none of the visual where considered (Lame) in the 50's of course now its all different but they managed to make a classic with the first Jap Godzilla. Hot guys well i cant help you there but i hope you dont look for that in movies hehe...

a movie should be based upon its plot, acting and shooting, how the frames were placed, etc...not how hot an actor is. Im afraid thats a big missconception.
Not all old movies were good but a lot of black and white films are actually pretty good and people dont take a look at them simply BECAUSE they are in black and white.
Oh as for the Kurosawa movie, the one on the relative truth is called Rashomon. Definately great to go see.
