Well I saw The Last Samurai yesterday. I must say the movie was completely ownful, I loved it. I loved the ideas portrayed, the scenery and of course the battle scenes with swords. I am one who really likes the type of thing such as Samurai´s and the whole code of honor and all that. Despite Tom Cruise not being my favorite actor in any way I think he behaved rather well in this movie and played it out. Your thoughts?

My friend watched it and said it was great too. At first he didn't want to watch it because he said, "Who the hell wants to see Tom Cruise as a samurai? It doesn't even make sense."
But then his twin brother who is currently staying in Japan told him to go watch it. And another friend of his who saw it in Hong Kong also told him it's good...And he went and now he is recommending me to go. Seems to be a winner!

Its a good movie I saw it after PayCheck so maybe that helped but I did love the beautiful filming and I too love the Samurai concept. Samurai swords have always been something I wish to have on my wall when i eventually buy a place its like art.
Tom Cruise isnt my favorite but he did a good job I dont see how he wasnt up for an Academy considering some of the other less worthy actors that are.
Nicole Kidman better not win for Cold Mountain i'll cry if she does hehe

lol...u need a cuddle? tsk tsk

I just read another review today where the guy just judges the whole film on the missconception of a white man being a samurai. Watch the movie darn it! The idea of the film transcends what people think it is, and it brings real important values of the asian society into play.

A good samuri sword can cost over 5,000 $ USD I would like one.... of course a good sword created by a craftsman can cut more then one would normaly think.

I just relized that I watched it about 2 weeks ago and never mentioned that I saw it. I think there is no other movie that is THAT good. I can't describe exactly WHY it was good... it was just THAT good

I just saw it... awesome movie... I'm trying to convince my sister to check it out but she won't... she hates Tom Cruise far too much!
I don't know why everyone hates Cruise that much, all the movies I've seen from him have been pretty good

He always does a great job in most of his movies including this one. Not saying anything about your sister but some people think its an in thing to hate the best looking actors.
I've heard he was good looking not that i think so hehehe
The movie is good and the amount of work it takes to make these epic kind of movies makes them incredible. It would have been better if it was based on a true story but still good.

u can tell they focus on the looks a lot in his movies though coz of the face shots and his stupid grins heheh. Big one in this movie is when he gets the samurai suit, even though its complete with helmet and mask, he uses neither..so u can see his pretty face as he goes into combat. DId any of u look upon that? I have nothing against cruise just mentioning something interesting.

i saw this like a month ago.......and it blew........ the battle at end was only 1/2 decent part......tom cruise only one that survived ........come off it.....he should of died aswell. all the movie showed was a bunch of men who were too proud to admit defeat.

Well if he died then there would be no story because he is telling the story. Its obvious by your statement that you aren’t aware of the Samurai beliefs or traditions if you read up on it a bit you will realize that it has a very long history of warriors. The samurai warriors never accepted defeat and if they shamed their tradition they would kill them selves in one of the most painful ways of dying just to die with their pride.
It’s an amazing part of the Japanese history and the movie portrayed the samurai warriors without really embellishing much as it’s not really needed.

I'm glad you touched on this so well actz. They are not proud to be defeated, quite the opposite, but if they just fail that takes all their honor away. To take their own life via Harakiri (self stabbing at the gut right below the rib cage.) would still retain u with ur honor before the enemy could dispose of you in any gruesome way. I also think the movie depicts these ideals and costumes rather well without getting too hollywoodsy on it. I think the director did a fine job
