I'm more of a Star Trek fan, mostly The Next Generation series, although I do like The Original Series. I don't like any of the newer ones though.
I also like Star Wars too. But I've never seen any of the old movies.

I hate to say this, but Star Trek has to be the most used stereotype for geeks.

In my opinion Star Trek isn't a sterotype like that... although alot of people like that may watch it, it is a very good series (the older ones, anyway). Some of the episodes were like "What the **** were they thinking???" but some of them had you sitting at the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next.
Creatively, Star Trek is much better. Star Wars is just a few movies, Star Trek is hours upon hours of shows. Either way, though, I don't care for either.
True, Star Trek has ALOT of series... but they also have more movies than Star Wars.

Star Wars definately could never really stand Star Trek except for DS9 when I was like 8 on sundays after church mostly because there wasnt anything on until football. I dont know if anyone has ever seen Undergrads but the whole Star Wars vs Star Trek thing is great in that show.
i like start treck mainly because of next gen but mainly because of voyager, i think its the best.
I've seen a few Voyager episodes... I don't think they're too bad, but I just don't have any interest in it... something was lost after The Next Generation was over...
nah i dissagree voyager is the best but the next gen is very good.

I know no one came right out and said it but I don't believe Star Trek and Wars are mutally exclusive. As I already commented on in another post (most likely the reason why this thread was created in the first place) I love Star Trek when I actually watch it, otherwise, obviously, I don't care. I used to watch Voyager for the first half of the season then I was always stuck on my computer and stopped; I really liked it though, Captain Janeway did a great job. As for Enterprise, I've watched it a few times and liked it a lot.
I absolutely love Star Wars so of course I am going to pick that one. I like some Star Trek but nowhere near as much as I like Star Wars.

Deep space 9 = totallly sucked the big one not cool
voyager= good form and charector modeling
enterprise= lost the old midi song (darn)(replaced it with really gay one) but still inherits some goodness

lol. Voyager has good form. straight up man! and DS9 did mostly suck. But there was alot of good genuwine Star trek story in there. The whole Dominion war and such. It had story... DS9 in the star trek timeline, it definatly had influence on some Voyager episodes and star trek movies both. DS9 may have sucked but it still helped make up the whole star trek timeline of events.

Two people in my family like Star Trek, or rather watch it much more than me, and they fit none of these parameters.
I would not clasify them as computer nerds (I'm the only one), they don't have red hair, aren't pimply, don't wear thick glasses or have braces, and don't have a cheesy saying on their shirt. You may be thinking about the Star Trek fan club people but not even all of them look as you described. I must admit, I do kind of think of some of them looking like this too, though.

It has been out since July I think. I love it.
KotOR is an awesome RPG. It is one of my favorites. Bioware did an amazing job on it.
according to Gamespy, Star Wars Galaxy isn't so good... espcially since there seems to be no jedis in the game... or maybe taht was something else I read about
Well actuallly on the lightsaber subject.
One could be assembled by using a magnetic container to hold hydrogen plazma while keeping it in the plazma state. there have been experiments done similar to this (hahaha yeah I know but true) If a handheld one of these could be made (one that doesn't make your hand evaporate or melt) it would be able to do everything a light saber could in the movies (EX: cut through metal blast doors and such). but if one was dropped or implemented incorrectly there could be the result of a thermo nuclear explosion

I think this would be a very unwise decision to design and make a lightsaber; the chances of it blowing up are just too great, considering the explosion size.
edit: But I didn't know they could do such a thing, that's neat.

In order to become a Jedi you have to open up a force sensitive character slot on your account. That is not an easy thing to do but a few people did finally get theirs open this weekend. There are not many but I does prove that the system works.
A lot of people don't like it because they are looking for something like EQs loot system. You are not going to get that in SWG. You get barely any loot and most of it isn't worth the effort of keeping. The economy is driven by the players. If you want the best weapons and the best armor then you are going to have to find a master weaponsmith or a master armorsmith. I really like the way they have it set up.
Yes there are still bugs but look at EQ. It took a while for it to turn into a game worth putting money and time into for those that are complaining about it. SWG is only 4 months old. Give them time and it will be even better than it is right now.
Most importantly though, this is an MMORPG IN the Star Wars universe. I had been waiting for this for a very long time and now it is finally here. Being able to be in that universe and interact with the Star Wars characters is awesome. I would love this game for that reason alone but luckily there are so many more reasons to like it.

As for a light saber take a look at a Plasma cutting torch its pretty close to a light sabre lol You can cut a 1/2 inch plate of steel like butter.....
