The Machinist a new movie that will be out later this year. Christian Bale has become one of my favorite actors with his many diverse roles and with the latest movies like Equilibrium i've been very interested in his future work. He has a movie coming out this year that is called The Machinist seems like he has lost loads of weight in the movie but it does look pretty good. Point is its almost impossible to get the trailer that was released by Filmax over a month ago now. They released it for about a week then pulled it and it hasnt been back since so they most likely wanted to get out a better version or redo this one but I have it here for those who missed out.
Download The Machinist
HEREStarring: Christian Bale, Jennifer Jason Leigh
Director: Brad Anderson
Studio: Filmax
Rating: N/A
Theater Release: TBA 2004
The Story:Trevor Reznik, a machinist, has lost the ability to sleep. But this is no ordinary insomnia. Trevor has not slept in a year. Fatigue has led to a shocking deterioration of his physical and mental health. Suspicious of his appearance, Trevor’s co-workers first shy away from him, then turn against him after he’s involved in a shop accident that costs a man his arm. They blame Trevor for the accident. He has become a liability to himself and others, and now they want him out.
Plagued with guilt, Trevor’s shame becomes suspicion, then paranoia, when it appears his workmates are conspiring to have him fired –- or worse. First he finds cryptic notes left in his apartment. Next he’s told that a mysterious co-worker involved in the accident doesn’t exist.
Are these mysteries part of a plot to drive Trevor mad? Or is it fatigue that’s robbing him of his reason?
Determined to find an answer, Trevor investigates the strange occurrences that are turning his world into a sleepless nightmare. Yet the more he learns, the less he wants to know.

That's one movie I will not miss upon penalty of death hehe, I love movies where you have to think (mysteries). Very original it sounds. I downloaded the movie and opened it with a un/compression utility by the name of Enzip, moved it to the desktop, and played it without sound. Without sound it means nothing to me so I stopped about halfway through. It's 6.64 MB so it will take awhile to download over 56K but I'll edit this message with a "trailer response" later.
Sounds great.
um is that christian bale???
i cant believe it
and the whole insomnia **** is another rip of fight club

ya well i wouldnt call rip off till the movie is actually finished and someone has seen it i dont think its going along those lines at all but are we going to call every movie made about insomnia a rip off of fight club... it may be a bit of fight club and Memento combined into a new idea.
Fight Club was not the first movie about insomnia and wont be the last. This reminds me of the movie Equilibrium everyone saying it was a rip off from Matrix but it had a completely different story, concept and idea.
hehe anyways if its bad/rip off i'll be the first to say so even if i like the idea and actors but i'll wait to form an opinion on it till i actually watch it.
That is Christian Bale he is very thin in this movie looks like he lost a lot of weight for that.

Any of u medical freaks out there. Is it actually possible for the guy to be up on his feet doing stuff, working fully and dealing with a conspiracy after not having Slept 1 hour in a year??? Hmm..Sounds far fetched to me

He doesn't have to be phsyically tired to be tired. He can be EXTREMELY mentally tired, but if he sits and does nothing at night, then he won't be phsyically tired at all.

This is what I was going to say, Deftone. This is something you have to learn to overcome when watching movies; you cannot always use logic although I tend to have a lot of problems with this as I try to reason most anything out to the point of it being almost obsessive.
Equilibrium did remind me of the Matrix but yes, it has a totally different concept. These are the types of movies I like, ones that make you think... that's why I can't stand most movies, considering many are romances it seems.
edit: I have yet to watch the trailer... was thinking about downloading it overnight but knew I'd forget to disconnect.

A movie doesn't have to be factual, only believable within the context it starts out with. Not sleeping a wink in 14 days has never been done, let alone a year; but that doesn't mean a thing in a fictional movie.
Can't believe Christian Bale is doing Batman after opening up a few diverse roles (getting away from his butch typecasting). George Clooney was the only lead who's career wasn't totally killed by Batman (and he hasn't had much in the way of diverse roles since he done it either).
Batman hurt the careers of Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Silverstone, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chris O'Donnel and Arnold Schwarzenegger (to some degree).
Hopefully he'll come out unscathed like Nicole Kidman and Christopher Walken.

The no sleep thing for 1 year cam be understood and looked at in different ways. The first time i hear it i was like wait a second that is impossible but what is sleep really its just you lying down and not thinking much so lets say he does the same closes his eyes and tries to think about nothing just blank that's not sleeping but it must relax the body enough I dont know. Like phpfan said its hard to put logic to most movies.
Hehe i agree with L0cky... Batman is a risky role but I have high hopes for this one, I read its not another sequel but the story goes along the lines of how batman became batman so that at least sounds like it could be interesting. christian bale has taken all kinds of roles i think he wants to make a one big brekthrough into main stream cinema with batman.

In Fight Club..he is an insomniac...but he doesnt go for a Year without sleep. I think that is stretching it way too much. And dun get me wrong I loved Equilibrium (which in my opinion is a mix of the book 1984 or Brave New World with the Matrix). But i dun find the idea of aguy tired with ppl conspiring against him to sound very much appealing. Of course id have to see the trailer.
Edited: well I just saw the trailer. Still doesnt appeal to me much. Also the fact that he can run around and yell and throw stuff around after a year of not sleeping 1 hour even is not even close to believable

If the one year of sleep ruins the movie for you then i would just forget about that part of the movie and pretend like its a week... what’s believable and not believable in movies now days. I'd say no action movie i have ever seen is believable or any futuristic movie. I know the movie is going along different principles but you have to look at the original story and just go with it sometimes without dissecting each fact of a story.
Is it believable no but who says it has to be. I don’t think the writer thought yes lets convince people that its possible, they just want to go with an original story. Donnie Darko < excellent movie based on time travel ... isnt believable but still enjoyable.

Sometimes it's impossible to enjoy yourself unless you abandon logic. This, of course, being the perfect example.
edit: I downloaded the trailer and watched it; didn't really understand what exactly was going on at some points and why or how he was making the notes but it still looked good from what I understood.

I think a lot of people are just too hung up on relating fiction to fact. Movies are supposed to be unreal; the escape from reality is their purpose, even if to convey a real world message.
It'd be like saying Spiderman is a bad movie solely because there's no way a man could climb a building like that.

hehe

like I said in my previous post but I understand how people always seem to want to relate or even try and relate to reality. This is something that american cinema does best, when you see movies from the orient they don’t try and rationalize everything into a concept that could be true. I think the confusion sets in with Americans because of the lack of original story lines and if its not logical then its not good. Movies such as Donnie Darko didn’t do very well in America but in Europe they did excellent. This is a movie that may have the same turn out in the end, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Well see. I understand movies are fiction. But since u posed the thing about spider man. At least his story attempts to explain WHY he can climb walls. Coz he was bitten by radioactive spider, which of course in real life would most likely just kill u or damage you but at least they come up with something. This movie however to me, lacks substance..and a machinist? I dun see the point.

Everyone is so shocked about the lack of sleep aspect of the film, but just look how much weight Christian Bale lost. I'm surprised he is even able to function. It's a big departure from his look in "American Psycho." Some people who have actually seen the whole movie have posted their thoughts on IMDb if anyone is interested.
