There was a music interests thread at the old Geeknewz too so I figured I post one again. JP's post in the 'Introduce' thread reminded me of it.
If anyone's obligated in making this into a poll please feel free to do so; I don't know many other "music" types other than classical and jazz.
Btw, I like classical and jazz, incase you couldn't tell.

For me:
1) Classic Rock (all)
2) Alternitive Rock (some, not all)
3) Classical (Beethoven, mainly. Bach and Mozart too

)
A few others too, but those are my top 3

1. rock
2. crazy blues
3. pop (only the classic stuff)

Oh yes, blues is usually good too, I just don't usually include it in my favorites. Overall, I don't really listen to music all that much.

Jazz is basically the evolved form of Blues.... or so I'm told
I love the Neverhood, as my sig and Avator suggest, and I love the Neverhood's music, it had 3 CDs made out of it....
anyway, music had crazy blues, jazz, dixieland etc. all mixed up.. it was sweeeeeeeet....

Since I left a comment on the old site about music which was about 6 months ago i've started to listen to all new artist.
As some of you know I listen to everything and enjoy it but I buy and listen to mostly rap and hiphop at home. In the last 6 months I havent listened to hardly any commercial rap and i've gone completely underground. I've discovered a whole new scene, lots of quality MC's with the best lyricst i've ever heard. Lots of them should be signed which the may be one day but its just that lucky break that they need i guess.
Some of the Underground MC's:
Immortal Technique
Apathy
Cage
Chino XL
Jedi Mind Tricks
Jean Grae - Probably the best Women MC i've heard

Wish I could copy/paste my old post but I like most anything but country and crappy mtv rap. Punk, ska, emo, hardcore, jazz, classical, some classic rock, and some real hip hop not the mtv stuff like I said. Mostly punk, ska, and emo though, the stuff my dad can put up with, no one likes to hear Zao played at 3 am, I dont think I really would either.

I'm a huge fan of Punk and Emo but i'll listen to almost n e thing except rap. Country Music is played on the bus so i can't really escape it, but i'd rather not listen to it. I like 70's and 80's rock too, but my favorite band is AFI. For those of you who don't know them I suggest downloading a song (paying for it of course) called "Days of the Phoenix".

Here's another type of music I never include in my list; I've heard it maybe once of twice.
Hungarian monks chanting (don't ask me why).
edit: It's astounding to me how some people can intermingle(SP?) obnoxious screaming with peaceful music; maybe I'm just not understanding. One of the things I cannot stand about lyrical music is that I can very rarely actually hear what the singer is saying; and also, it almost always has to do with love. Maybe I'm oversimplifying in saying this...

love/hate/relationships are quite inspiring... not too many people get inspired by a cupcake or a pillow. Just most common thing to express yourself about I guess, but I'd agree probably 80-85% of songs are about love in some way.

Nov 6 2003, 07:21 AM
you know, that is what singing was invented for, love....
you see, animals, birds in particular use singing to attract mates, they are basically showing the female that they have complex brain patterns and therefore will create smart offspring, this is, I think also ture with some mammals.
but ofcourse you have to accept the theory of evolution for this theory to be correct
p.s. The "theory" part of theory of evolution confuses some to believe that it hasn't been proven however it is very much a proven fact and there are no noteworthy scientists disagreeing to it...

Some of their music is like that, but you have to listen to Unforgiven to see what I mean.
"New blood joins this earth
and quickly he's subdued
through constant pain disgrace
the young boy learns their rules
with time the child draws in
this whipping boy done wrong
deprived of all his thoughts
the young man struggles on and on he's known
a vow unto his own
that never from this day
his will they'll take away
"What I've felt, What I've known,
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be, never see.
Won't see what might have been.
What I've felt, What I've known,
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never free, never me. So I dub thee Unforgiven."
VERY good song. That's not all the lyrics either.

Well I've never really listened to any of that kind of music, of what I've heard, no, I cannot stand it. Although GTX gave me an example of a song other than the music I listen to that wasn't just constant foul bernacular; it wasn't bad. Although I don't know how they sing it (probably like they sing everything else) it didn't seem uncivil.

but talking trash about a band that others like is disrespectful, especially when you don't provide any facts to back up your argument. Want to debate over it? Fine, but make sure you do so in an appropriate manner and have reasons to back up your statements.

I'm not saying I like Metallica and am in no way defending him but why is that such a big deal. I just visited the website and you have to buy everything you download now (which I knew). It might still be good but why would anyone use it unless they're moral and/or are going to use what they download all the time.

Nov 9 2003, 04:45 AM
The only genre I can tolerate as a whole is classical; however, none of the artists I listen to are of that except 1 maybe. A great deal of the modern music is boring and angsty in terms of lyrics. Bands like Linkin Park, Staind, AFI, Korn etc are nothing profound in any way(why do you think their target audience is teens). Very simple lyrics and nothing deep. Easy to sell and easy to digest they are, but then again mainstream artists have the job of trying to sell as many records as possible.

I espicially like the imitations, after someone has showed off their "impressive" impression, I go up to them and say have you actually ever heard a MJ song? and they'd just no, plain and simple as if there is nothing wrong about what they just did...
