Microsoft will announce that they will give a $250,000 reward for information that helps lead to the arrest of the people that created the MSBlast and SoBig worms. The reward was alot part of the law enforcement's idea, but Microsoft will foot the entire bill. Cash in at CNET for the latest:

"The two programs attacked computers running Microsoft's Windows operating system, causing havoc among companies and home users in August and September. The reward, confirmed by sources in both the security industry and in law enforcement, will be announced in a joint press conference with the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service and Interpol scheduled for 10 a.m. EST on Wednesday.

"The rewards are the latest move by Microsoft and law enforcement to track down the people responsible for infecting hundreds of thousands of computers in August and September. The U.S. Department of Justice, FBI and Microsoft had earlier announced the arrests of two men who are suspected of modifying and releasing minor variations of the MSBlast worm.

This seems like an exercise in futility to me, rolleyes.gif but for $250,000, who knows what might happen.

Accually, at first, Inkman mentioned to me that the guy who started it was already caught. Then I read on and it's like "Ah... they want the people who made the other versions!"

For $250,000, I'd turn myself in (If the bail was lower than that, which it isn't)

yeah the guy they caught modified it like just a little and the version he created I dont think even affected that many people, sucks to be him.
GTX5_Crusader
Some of the modifications that were released also did some damage, but not quite as much as the original.

Wasn't there a modified version which actually helped people block out MSblast? Was one of the guys arrested the guy who made the 'good' MSblast?
GTX5_Crusader
Accually, there was, but the "Good" version of MSBlast accually caused more of a problem though..
