Hey guys, about 3-5 years ago I used to be active on here, I think my name was Vampyric or something (Hahahaha). Anyway, likely none of you remember me and that's alright. Does Rob still post often here?

Anyway, I haven't been much into computers in the last 3 years (had other interests, I had a life? etc), haha. So what do you guys all run for antivirus, anti-spyware, etc these days? Can be free (preferably) or non-free software, and of course for Vista.

I've so far installed Firefox and MSN (obviously, haha) and plan on using Spybot for spyware and AVG for antivirus unless you guys suggest something better.

Also, any solid, free, non-annoying firewalls available these days?

Feel free to list any other cool non-"essential" software, too.

Thanks.

btw in case anyone is wondering I'm running an AMD 4400+ processor, 2GB ddr2 ram, 320gb HD... nothing fancy, but I got a very good deal on this system, and I'm not a gamer, so yeah.

I use Avast, but AVG vs. Avast is the eternal question, isn't it? tongue.gif

Ummm...other suggestions? Audacity, Torrent Client (I choose uTorrent), VLC Media Player, Hamachi, Net Tools, AIM (Yes, I still use AIM 5.9, shut up), Google Earth, Winamp, and GIMP...ummm....nothing else that's free...biggrin.gif

Oh, and something to mount ISO files to virtual drives if you use that at all....if you have no idea what I'm talking about, disregard that sentence. tongue.gif

Yep reinstalled utorrent, vlc.

Now recommend some solid non-free programs =)

also, which firewall if any do you use?

I use Avast for AV and am running the Sygate Personal Firewall (free version) for the last couple of years, they play well together and the firewall does all it should and is pretty easy to configure, on its highest security setting it is pretty aggresive, on normal, well, its normal, I usually forget its there.
Cheers!
Oh, and welcome too! biggrin.gif

I am running Vista 64 and for a free firewal that works really well is Comodo Firewall Pro and its free. running AVG but thinking about going with Clamwin (if it runs on Vista)

I have a notebook running XP with 256Mb's of ram and I run Ghostwall and Clamwin on it along with SP3 RTM, I have to say for the small amount of RAM I have it runs really well. Well enough in fact that I had planned on buying a 1GB upgrade and now am having second thoughts about wasting the money lol

I also am thinking about going with Ghostwall if it will run on Vista too (The performance on the laptop with those two running really impressed me)
