I have a Dell Inspiron 600m, and it has a S-video output. When I plug the cord into the laptop and the tv, the tv says no signal is received. There is a CRT/LCD button using f8 and function button, but when i press them nothing happens. Does anyone know why I can't get the output (what's on my screen) displayed on the input (tv) using a s-video cord? thanks.
Hm, your trying to use your tv as a monitor? I think this is different than using your s-video output, I could be mistaken but I think that is for if you want to play DVD's or run saved videos directly from your PC. To have your tv process your screen's images I think it may be have to be set up as a second monitor, I am only guessing here but something doesn't seem right, hopefully I'll be corrected and slapped around soon, this puzzles me but I have no time right now to hunt answers fer ya. I believe our friends at ExtremeTech have dealt with this recently you may want to check out their forums. Happy season to ya and if you do find a solution that is not posted or archived here please do us a great favor and tell us curious ones what ya came up with eh! Tell us anyways! I have a feeling its something simple like maybe even a setting or two in either your graphics display or card functions, seems to me there was/is a setting in my OS (me dino) for two monitors, maybe this needs to be addressed? again just stabbin' in the dark. For more concise efforts you may want to post your system specs (ie. graphics card, OS, display type, and what you're trying to hook up to), and oh, is your tv s-video capable (asking 'cause I'm havin' a bugger of a time with several DVD players on fairly recent (less than 10yrs old) tvs, what a pain.).
