Alright, I know many pros and cons of both sides...but here a why i am asking. I am going off to University this fall to get my Bachelors of Science, majoring in physics.

So with a laptop I can take it where I need it, but it is more expensive, and I enjoy gaming.
But a desktop would be cheaper, harder to steal, but fails terribly on the portable side.

There are many other reasons, but I can't make up my mind...any suggestions?

I don't know what your university is like, but mine offers a "loan" if you buy a laptop on campus, without interests. So my laptop is indeed expensive, and it's perfectly fine for gaming, and I get to pay it in monthly payments spread out over 2 years. You should probably ask around if something like that is possible at your universty, and then look further wink.gif

There is a university that does do something like that, but not the one I'm going to.

I think if I was to get a laptop that could game decently, it could potentially over power this computer, only because these parts are outdated...

But to get a laptop that can do gaming would start at about 1500ish...

I've got a $1000.00 HP Pavilion dv8309us Media system with an AMD 64 bit processor and an ATI Radeon Xpress200M card. I play Oblivion and WOW on this thing, write and research papers, program C/C++ with DirectX 9.0c and OpenGL, watch/make DVDs, write music and MP3s, and take it to school/work/out. I always have it in my backpack. Good battery life and strong easy wireless.

I've also built a decent computer for gaming: SLI dual graphics cards, fans and heat syncs out the a$$, dual core 2.i-forget GHZ AMD processor, etc. This was actually more expensive than the laptop was. Almost twice as much, actually.

I dunno, I guess what I'm trying to say is... yes.
