So ... anyone running it yet? What are your thoughts?

I'm still confused by all the versions. wacko.gif

I ran an Alpha version of it back in the day on VMWare and I wasn't the least bit impressed. Then again, it was an Alpha version, but the main thing I disliked was it's 8GB install size.

Recently, thought, several friends of mine have gotten a hold of newer versions, some of them "final" releases. The stability seems to rank up there with XP, however, driver / gaming support is horrible, and several mainstream Microsoft products (Office, for example) also tend to glitch.

For gamers, it's a bit letdown so far, especially since many (including myself) want to take advantage of the DX 10 support.

Until Vista is accepted by manufactuers and drivers are released, I'm not even looking to get a test version of the OS.

I'm going to get it when I get my laptop this summer, but I'm not holding my breath when it comes to support...If I hear it's not great, and I don't like it, I'll simply downgrade with my XP copy I have now. But until then, I'm just going to read personal reviews...actually i'm going to go to Toms Hardware now and read theirs.

Trying to get this installed on Parallels on my MacBook ... I have the MSDN version for testing here in the office but its split up into 4 ISO's rather than one dvd and Parellel's seems to get confused :S

Later today when I get my shipment from newegg in (I'm system building) I will be running it on a amd 64 x2 5200 (1 mb per core, 2.6ghz) asus m2ne (nforce 570), 2 gb of ddr 2 800, radeon 1650PRO. Vista is ordered along with it, but I will be dualbooting it with xp pro and if I get it in time OSX 86. I will notify all on this little machines results, but it seems like it will be pretty solid.

ps: I mean very solid

I installed it and ran it for three days.
I installed my nero 7.5 and found it was not compatible.
I installed two of my burning softwares and found them not to be compatible.
It would not except my video card and that did it.......
I went back to xp pro.

The biggest problems I've heard so far have been issues with software/hardware compatibility.

The new Office Suite is taking a bit to get used to, but it's very neat. Of course MS had to catch up with Apple, so they've thrown in a few sorry excuses for widgets--which I've never been very fond of.

Its been pretty quiet lately as far as the big tooting of horns you'd expect from MS with a new OS version on the go, makes me wonder. I have heard that driver support so far suxors, kind of like XP's only even less. So sorry about your luck if you have 4k worth of games you can't play, a 5yr old scanner, a 3yr old camera, a 2yr old printer, etc. etc.. XP's lack of support for everything from older games to its requirements for 'XP' signitures still has me shying away from it btw. I think that they think everyone has money to burn and will replace everything they own, really pisses me off........really. I have several friends that are going back to '98 or are trying to run both, just to be able to operate older periphrials. Its a travesty imo, a waste, a money grab by people with their heads up in deep dark places. And as to 'Vista', hmmmm, I can see it becoming a big/huge dino (and it isn't exactly a 'streamlined' Os to say da least) and driving endusers to the free market open-source systems such as Linux. More power to 'em imho.
Just my 0.02$ worth for the day (hey, after our last power outage its taken me a month to get back on-line after a total re-format and much work, major withdrawls mates I tell ya).
