Are multi-core processors neccessary?

Oh man are they ever ! Im running a 805D right now and I wasnt sure if dual core was worth it but after using it for a while (even the cheesy one I have) I will never go back to single core CPU's !!!
Edit: I guess im wary of anything new ! When it comes to hardware.
