I was helping this lady out with her older computer and installing a dailup modem in her older computer so that her kids would have an dailup internet access. and she have DSL on her line and for some reason that modem well not connect to the ISP peoplepc. I also heard that you need like a dsl filter do that cut down the speed so that the dailup modem would connect at 56k or lower... and what is the cost of a dsl filter anyone know?

I have been thinking about this for about 24 hours....

First she has DSL ?
If she does have DSL a regular 56K modem will not work (the signal comming from the wall is digital and a modem is a analog modulator demodulator) you need to get a DSL modem at a store they will have 2 or 3 ports on them. Or you might be able to find a DSL internal modem but I have not seen them. The external models usualy have a ethernet port and a USB port for connecting to your PC then there is a port for regular phone cord to plug into the outlet. Those DSL filters you need to put on your other phone lines becouse phones will cause static in the line and mess up the digital signal.

I hope I helped a little (Im on back pain meds right now and im very tired becouse of them lol)

She has a dsl modem on her new compaq computer and I was trying to install a 56k modem in her older computer system for her kids so that they would have dailup interent. So I guess I would need a filter for that computer so the modem would work then right?
