I am running Windows ME & downloaded "PC MightyMax v9". I didn't subscribe to it and can't figure out how to get rid of it. It's causing major headaches.
thanks,

So, what exactly does PC MightyMax do? I read their little sales-pitch (PC MightMax) and it looks like all the "services" provided by the program could be accomplished by clearing your temp folder, clearing all offline content via Internet Options, and defragging...?

It didn't come with Uninstall? Hmm. Try deleting the folder you installed to, then using the Search feature in your start menu and search for all files on your computer created on the day you installed it.
See if you can't figure out which of those were installed by MightyMax and which were unrelated.

Or you could open the Search and search for files modified today, then reinstall MighyMax. Make sure the Search is organizing its results by date (as opposed to alphbetically) and that should give you some idea as to what the installer is doing to your comp.

Finally, if everything else fails, in the words of my roommate, "Sounds like it's time for a format C:"

Have a look at the link below seems like this guy had to remove it in the registry so no easy way around it.

You don't have to re-format, MMx is a real pain and has been discussed here before and also quite recently, do a search (look in the Software section), in those threads there are several links with successful solutions, and yes, it is a total pain-in-the-butt and I believe involves a decent purge of the registry entries. People have had a number of not so nice experiences with this pos program, avoid it like the plague! Run away run away!
Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction! And btw welcome johnt to GeekNewz, enjoy your stay and do not hesitate to ask us anything you have problems with!
Cheers,
Serge

Too late edit, here is the best thread, did quite a bit of research on this one but I believe the links you'll need are there, if not there are at least two other threads on this dreck, it is here> http://www.geeknewz.com/board/index.php?showtopic=3002

Good luck! wink.gif

Serges2,
I didn't see anything on those pages. This thing is taking over, today I can't use outlook express, print, system restore, & add/delete programs.
Thanks for your time,
John

No probs mate! Sorry, I cannot find the links I posted, I really thought they were there, but anyhoo here is the search I did origionally to solve this>
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=removi...le+Search&meta=
There is one 'pay for your info' site, do not bother with it, I think I found the answers within the first three pages, don't have a lot of time or energy right now so do a bit o' googling yourself, there are successful solutions, Start by entering MMx into your file/folder search and right click and delete all of them that you see if it is a folder open the folder first then delete each and every file. It is a drag but persist, it is do-able!
Cheers!
Serge

Still at a loss on removing MightyMax from Windows ME. I downloaded but did not install MightyMax. I have tried running the following:
My virus/firewall protection - CyberScrub antivirus, Kerio firewall
ISP virus checks using McAfee and Trend
Gladiator antivirus
Adaware SE
Z Soft uninstaller
Spybot Search & Destroy
I have searched files & folders deleting everything that has a reference to mightymax.
up until today I had a file which showed up in the search that contained "the mm icon, then pcnm" - 1,745 KB - Application - 4/16/2005 , clicking on it shows "C:\Prpgram Files\PC MightyMax"
Right clicking shows "cannot delete pc mm: The specified file is being used by windows"
I finally found it again by using an advanced search for subfolders.
With the date being in 2005 has this mightymax thing attached itself to an existing file?
When my computer stops I try ctrl/alt/delete which brings up my program list which shows mightmax not responding, by hitting "end task" I'm back in business.
Yesterday I finally was able to use "system restore" to get back to the day before which enabled me to use outlook express, my printer and several other programs.
HELP if you can.
thanks,
John

Have you tried deleting the left-over files while in 'Safe Mode'? Might give that a shot as well. I have pretty much run out of ideas on this one man but I think if you are in doubt about whether it has attached itself to other folders (likely) you will probably have to go through those too, if you're unsure what a file is about right click then hit properties. Doing that to a file you know for sure is MM might help you see some of the file extensions that it uses, maybe try a search for those extensions too. It used to go by a different named before it was repackaged and resold, do a google and find out what it was (something like PC bug doctor or some such) and take a look for references to that too, you never can tell. A file 2005 wouldn't be part of the OS, ME being '00-01, maybe try click and drag it into your recycle bin and see if anything goes missing, then you could aways put it back if it is needed (I'd be careful doing this in the registry though, maybe write down the ones in question and google them (what is blahblah.sys), esp if they are .exe type). Yup, a real true pain, almost like extortion or blackmail that one. Did you try to restore to a point further back btw when you were able to use it? All I can think of right now, if I have some time to spare a little later I'll go a-searchin' and see if I can find any other methods, I know they are out there but you have to go through a lot of stuff to find them it seems. I'll post any links I find here. Persist and persevere! Keep us updated too as to what you do, the info could be useful to others, I know wynette successfully got it out (her son did) but she hasn't posted how he did it, wah.

A successful exorsism on an XP system, some good info on AdAware SE setup and SB S&D > http://forums.techguy.org/security/377697-...me-get-rid.html lots of good stuff on this site.

Another solution found at NetGuide.com was to "Go into Add/Remove programs, highlight PCMM, click CHANGE, program will run a second, then give you the option of removing it." Site page here> http://www.netguide.com.au/useful_stuff/he...tem.php?id=1366
And this page with basicly the same solution explained slightly differently here> http://forums.pcworld.co.nz/archive/index.php/t-62695.html
And *sigh* yet another thread on the same problem, main suggestion was deleting all pcmm.exe files the deleting the file folder, suggestions here> http://www.bullguard.com/forum/9/PC-Mighty...moval_8719.html

That's it fer now John, give this a look-see, if something works for you let us know, I'm sure this will become a popular thread (first on 'removing PC Mighty Max help' google, or at least it was).

have you try this....

Format your hard drive
then take it out of your computer
and hit the hard drive with an hammer really hard and run it over with your car and then put it back into your computer and reinstall the windows me. Don't install software that you don't want or trust.
and then enjoy your computer if it still working if you hit it with the hammer or a 80 pound hammer
