Q: What's up with the name Longhorn?
A: As I first revealed, the Longhorn name wasn't chosen randomly. Remember that Windows XP was code-named Whistler and the next version of Windows, at the time, was code-named Blackcomb. Both of these names come from ski areas in British Columbia, close to Microsoft's headquarters. At the foot of Whistler Mountain, there is a saloon named Longhorn that serves the local skiing population. So if you're ever in the area and want to take in some local color, Longhorn is a nice stop… after you're done with Whistler. "

Of cousre not. It will probably have something like either Windows 2005 or something else. Longhorn is just like Whistler. As soon as it goes gold, the name is gone.

I think it'll keep the name Longhorn...

I hope not. Longhorn reminds me of Texas.
I had no idea why M$ chose these names and always wondered; now I've been enlightened. Thanks.

You're kidding, right? No windows version has ever kept it's testing name. They need something with good PR, something they can market. Longhorn is just a code name they use until they figure out what the hell they should call it.

No of course the name will change and has to change. The names they come up with are up to the programmers involved as some of you know the 2 main mountains Whistler & Blackcomb are where the Microsoft Team would go to. The resorts located just outside of Vancouver in Canada a short drive from Seattle and even shorter helicopter ride.

Longhorn sounds stupid and the logo looks even more pathetic, they want something that sounds really High tech... I thought Windows XP sounded perfect with it's post modern wallpapers and logo

I didnt know that Longhorn was reffering to the bar at the bottom of Whistler hehe i've drank there quite a few times thats cool to know
Good names for Longhorn release, I dont know maybe 2005 like bangbang suggested windows FX < seems like everyone from programs to graphic cards to even car models are using those two letters recently hehe but most likely they wont follow that trend

Lol you mean Windows SC. Actually, with some new devices they are coming out with, seamless computing might be a great name for it.

name another OS that is more seamless and easy to use for the avergae home user. There are none, not even Mac OSX. Why? Because if it was so great new media devices would be using it and not Windows MCE.

nono, not saying that Windows isnt solid and userfriendly, but to go out and label it seamless.... rather presumptious.

Well we don't know what Longhorn will bring so it may very well be very seemless.

Im guessing they will change it to a name that wont necessarily make it any less lame. Like Windows Future! lol...or some other crap like that.

I have a feeling they will stick with the Windows and then either the 2 letter or number that follow.

yes. but while in a way, for example XP might sound cool...but if u figure it means Windows Experience then it sounds rather lame. Such things like that I hope they wont pick for this new one

It would be kinda cool if microsh*t would make a contest of that!

With a cash prize and everything $$$. Anyway, it would be cool if it had some other kind of name than 2005 or FX. Maybe Windows /r (slasher) would be cool

. Or something like Windows ?¿ lol

actz, Windows SM would never make it because SM could be misinterpreted as S&M. They don't want that lol.

i was about to post that. ohh well you beat me to it. i dunno i think "2k5" would be ok. id like to hope that longhorn will be seemless but unless microsoft have full access to our computers to update on the fly i dont think there will ever be a seemless product.
