I've heard that both Bearshare and Limewire contain spyware. With that said, is there a similar *lite* application that offers the same content without the spyware?

I think Limewire is free from spyware, atleast the recent versions. Cannot be to sure though ...
Instead of a "lite" version, you can look for other clients which access the gnutella network, like shareaza for windows or gtk-gnutella on unix.

Limewire is easy to use and really good for single songs. Just run spybot after you install it. should remove most of the spyware.
but for whole albums, use Bit Torrent.

Morpheus 5.0 rocks. Its quite good with download unlike KaZaA Lite which has now become very sluggish. Get it at
http://www.morpheus.com/beta/ . Its a must have...lol...

Warning: Morpheus has a memory leak and is a bit buggy. However it beats all other P2P networks hands down (except for bittorrent)

I basically need a P2P program that would find decent quality songs, and of course software.

I recommend azureus for software and Morpheus 5 for songs

I like LimeWire for my songs. I have a better time find the songs I want & rates are very decent for me.

If you can get a Torrent for Limewire Pro, I suggest you do. That's what I did, and I am very pleased.

Edit: Got so cought up in my rant that I forgot the reason I came to this thread... I tried bear share and while I kind of liked it they didnt have any of the files I was looking for of course I only tried like 20 different files....

I am going to stay away from all p2p programs from now on. With the RIAA going after all their customers. Now is not the time.

agreed with the above totaly.... also I am deliberatly not buying new DVD's or CD's in sort of a protest of all the BS. Hmmm although renting from block buster games and DVD's I dont realy have to buy... lol

lol nice to know that some of the music that the RIAA decides isnt hot anymore will still be availiable some where on earth.... I mean I listen to stuff that just isnt played on the radio and finding a CD of it just isnt realy an option (going to Wal Mart or a CD store is a joke to me 60% of the time they have 0 of the albums from the bands im looking for and the other 40% of the time they have like 1CD thats not even what im looking for....)

I've used Bearshare, Kazaa, eMule, and BitComet (Bit Torrent).
I used Kazaa Ressurection, which was a re-make of Kazaa Lite K++, which was made by someone OTHER than Sharman Networks, so there was NO spyware whatsoever. The speed to get files really sucks though, and most files are corrupted.
Bearshare has a really fast download speed, many connections, and a fast search engine. But, it's just like eMule, which I have used for a lot longer and have trusted more.
I completely love BitComet. It's not that great for finding smaller files (such as single MP3s), but the ability to download entire series of a show in 1 download or entire albums makes it a great program. There is no search feature though, so you have to find sites yourself (which is a REALLY big pain at times).
With all that said, I mainly use eMule and BitComet as my two main programs, and eMule has more similarities to Bearshare.

I use LimeWire and Azureus. BearShare / Limewire and Morpheus are almost clones of each other...

When I installed Kazaa Resurrection, I had 4 entries of spyware. I used to use Kazaa Lite K++, but now I mainly use Bit Torrent.

The latest version of KaZaA Lite Revolution is version 2.6.1 . It doesnt have spyware. You could google it.
eXeem was detected with spyware with ad-aware 1.05 SE. When it tried cleaning eXeems spyware, it crashed my system...
