Full Version: Running games from CD in 98SE

We have inherited an NEC Versa 6050MX laptop. Seems like a solid little machine but it only has a 48MB Ram and a 1G hardrive, I've cleaned up the HD and have 750MBs of free space. The problem is this, it is too small to run most games and I don't want to fill the hard disc with one or two, so, how do I go about running games directly from the CD if it is possible (we have some older games that should work), I need some basic 'How To" stuff as I am not totally familiar with 98se and seem to be missing something wacko.gif . Also, any rec's on NICs for this? Has anyone out there mucked with one of these units before and can tell me how upgradable they are (some of these models apparently had 2&4G HDs, are they interchangable?).
Thanks in advance. smile.gif

Alot of games won't run off the CD. You should be able to browse the CD and find an EXE that closely resembles the game's name (For example, if you're playing Civilization, you should find an EXE called "civ.exe". That should run the game.

The best advice I can give though is to install the game and choose a "Minimal" installation. Some older games will only install less than 100MB on the hard drive... but I'm not sure which games you're trying to play so I don't know...

And for your NIC question: Not sure. Never really worked with Laptops...

I'm am a novice with laptop but I don't think older laptop you could interchange without sending to the manufactor. I didn't see interchange parts untill more recent years.

Boogiepop, you are correct, it is quite an operation (sigh) and not one I'm going to tackle, esp. with these big mitts of mine lol.
