Hi,

Indigo thanks for the Instructions, but i still get stuck at step 5.
when i have to set it to '' retrieve ip Automatically ''.
Because i have the Dutch language windows. And i tried everything,
i also skipped Step 5 over once, than i had the same IP address.
it isnt really working like i understand it how to do '' it ''

So please if you could help me out, i would really appreciate it.

that process doesnt change your ip, it changes your network ip, it does not affect your outside IP at all.
Indigo
^ Don't know if i know what "Network IP" is, but I'm assuming its your Internal IP?

if so, you're wrong. It changes the External IP (One that boards can see,etc..)

In step 5, you are just setting it back to what it was before you edited it the first time

Example: http://www.picturehost.co.uk/free.one/leethax2.JPG

If you are using Win 2000 or something other than XP. I wouldn't know since I've never used anything below XP

Hope that helps you anyway

steps 2-5 in your process deal with nothing but your internal/network IP. They do not affect your outside IP. Releasing and Renewing your ip could change it IF you have a dynamic IP which it seems like you do.
Indigo
^ No, that does nothing for my External IP. I have to do steps 2-5 or my IP remains the same

please go read a book on basic networking... wow
Indigo
^ Why The flames?

You said that doing above without step 2-5 would do the same for my External IP as it does when when done with all 6steps.

I tried it your way, and i didn't see the same results. So either you are explaining it wrong, or you're just flat-out wrong.

If you cant come up with a response better than "You're Wrong go read a book" why even bother to reply?

And I'm reading up on Chronic_Apathy's link to Debian Networking anyway

I don't get it. A topic about politics and go on for days but a topic about changing one's IP address has problems in less than 24 hours. This topic's been here for awhile now, but it has had so many issues it's unbelieveable. I mean, a topic about Networking... Sad, I tell you.

I know who's right and who's wrong here, as I've done the tests and the research, but I'm not going to say as to not take sides or to start another flame fest.

It's sad that when one person asked a simple question, regardless of the reason (and before anyone digs into that one, watch your step), there is no need to flame one another about it. I'm tired of it and will stand for it no more.

Topic locked.
