What is a good phone out these days? I'm not really up to date when it comes to phones and i was thinking about getting a new one smile.gif

Things i'm looking for are:

- Pay as you go
- Flip phone is prefable
- A good Camera

I don't really have a price range atm, but be reasonable! smile.gif

Also- i want a phone, not a Pocket PC turned phone type deal.. wink.gif

The new motorola design with a camera is pretty nice.. The Sony-ericsson t610 or t616 also has a camera and a few extra features which are nice.

personally im diggin the new Nokia NGage QD mainly coz its smaller than the previous oneand it supports some pretty cool games too.

I just looked at a review of the K500i with captured videos and in use videos, amazing! The quality of the pix and the videos are great! Perfect buy for me, also i just found it for £99 on www.thelink.co.uk

u in the UK correct...there are some good Orange phones out there that u should be lookin at. Siemens is also a good company for phones.
gofikphoenix
Yeh, the K500i which i looked at is on Orange. For 6 months they give me texts for 3p each (usually 10p) if i get a phone from them, a good deal.

I must disagree. The Siemens phones have a horrible menu system they also don't have the prettiest of phones either.

Right now I have a job where I sell cell phones and not once have people asked for a Siemens. I'm in Canada. When I am in Hong Kong, I have shopped for a new phone each year for the last three years and rarely do I ever hear people wanting a Siemens.

If you want solid menu system I would go with Nokias, they are also known for reception. However, just today a customer compalained about the Nokia 3220's reception so maybe they are slipping.

For features I would go with the Sony Ericssons. I have a K700i and I feel your choice of the K500 is a good choice. Two things that people do complain about SE phones is their ring volume being too low and their reception being acceptable but not great. I think if you consider getting the T610 then I believe you should have a serious look at the T630. The T630 is a more polished, more refined version of the T610. The T610 was a great phone, very solid in all categories, and SE thought they would milk it some more so they made the T630.

Like actz suggested, if you got money to burn then get the S700...That is the one I myself am looking at. thumbsupsmiley.gif

EDIT: By the way, I have a friend who also works in cell phone shop...but in California...she says that one of the nice things about SE phones is that they have bluetooth. Many phones nowadays have bluetooth. What I'm trying to say is SE has been a leader in features...except for radio...it took them some time to implement that.
rockman56
hey kenut which cell phone shop are u working at?

as far as siemens phones, they may have a bad menu system, and most of their phones lack a normal sounding ringtone, but as far as reception goes they are one of the top ones out there.

my choice for a phone is the s710a, the north american version of the s700i

@deftone - what phone are u refering to when u mentioned the 's800'?
Kenut
Yea I want the S710a as well...But if I remember correctly...The S700i is cheaper...and the difference is the S700i lacks EDGE.

I'm a Sales Rep for one of the local cell phone service providers. I get moved around from store to store. For example, since I've started this job I've worked in three different stores already...

This job is only for a month so I can't hook you up with any deals but I can sure as hell tell you what deals the service provider I sell has. If ya wanna get a little more specific then I would prefer we use PM...laugh.gif I don't want know stalkers. By the way, X'Mas time is one of the best time to sign up for a plan and get a phone...So much competition out there.

PS. I really don't know if I would trade great reception for horrid menu design. I've heard some pretty bad stories about people taking forever to find a phone number in their contact list.

what I mean't is if you actually want a PHONE rather than anything else then Siemens is a pretty good choice.

woops my bad I said s800? lol i meant P800 hehehe

I thought he said he didn't want a pocket PC turned into a phone...Isn't the P800 that kinda phone? Also he wanted to get one of those...He should get the P910 because that is the latest one.

well the main difference between the s710a and the s700i is that the s710a has 850 instead of 900 and, as u said, edge for s710a and a radio for the s700i

and in my opinion, reception is the single most important feature for a phone. does it matter if u can find the number in the contact list if your phone can't get reception to make the call? haha laugh.gif

ps - i'm curious which company u work for...chinese dealer? i used to work for one too haha
Kenut
Phones like SE and Nokia have good menu system but you can't say they have reception so poor that it's unacceptable.

I believe SE and Nokia phones have a good balance of both reception and menu configuration. Now if the choice was between a phone with great reception but poor menu and a phone with poor reception and great menu then I would agree with you...I'd choose the phone with great reception.

But the choices aren't like that. Nokia has good reception and great menu...SE has reception that is a little weaker than Nokia but also has good menu and good features...Whereas Siemens has great reception but crappy menu...You understand what I'm getting at?

laugh.gif I don't work for a Chinese dealer. I'm a sales rep. for a particular service provider. I get assigned from store to store to help promote their service.
GTX5_Crusader
I know Nokia phones to be durable, but always had a problem with reception.
theRapist
I am personally looking at getting the Nokia 6260. It's a smartphone with all the connectivity features you need and want at a relatively reasonable price. Personally, I think SE phones are generally over-priced, but still have good features.

I've read reviews that say everything's good about it except for build quality, and I've played with the phone in person and I'm in agreement with those reviews. However, I don't mind that it feels "plasticky" or has a hinge that sways a little, I really love the features and the design (the black version). The fact that it has expandable memory makes me more inclined to buy this feature-packed, Symbian 60-based smartphone.

Do some more research on it, you may find that it's a great little phone at a fair price.

Here's a good little review for you to read over, it's got the Symbian benchmark scores too.

Here's another.
Deftone
if I get anything Nokia, it will be the NGage QD.
theRapist
The QD is a nice little phone with lots of entertainment value, but if or when you go travelling to another continent or country, you might not be able to use it cuz it's not a world phone.
Deftone
well it's being sold internationally, so I'm guessing on a certain level it works, and if you get your GSM to cover international calls I'm sure it would work as a phone quite okay. Might have to check about online gaming with it though if thats what u mean.
Kenut
I am looking at the Nokia website for Canada and it says the Nokia QD is a dual band phone. Its frequencies are 850 and 1900. This phone will not work in many many many countries. For example, I've sold a few tri band phones today to Philippinos because the frequency in the Philippines is 900. So the Canadian version of the QD will not work in the Philippines.

I've also checked a few more places...The QD with 850/1900 frequency won't work in...

Hong Kong
Brazil
China
Italy
Germany
Australia
Denmark...

The list goes on. These are just places I randomly picked. But like I said this is the Canadian version QD...I think other countries that the Canadian QD doesn't work with probably has a version that does have the right frequencies...However, it's probably still dual band and probably wouldn't work in Canada, US, Argentina...The list goes on...
Deftone
well the good thing is ..QD works in Argentina, and it works in the US...so for me thats good enough hehehe
gofikphoenix
Well, i got the K500i. It's very nice and is nice on the hands and such. Also, it's a perfect size! Not to big, not to small and the dimensions are aesthetically pleasing.
