Hey i just downloaded something and it comes as a MDF and MDS file for the CD. All i know or think is that both files have to be turned into an ISO or something or bined together then put onto C.D. Can anyone tell me how to burn MDF and MDS files onto a CD?

You will need to download a program called Alcohol 120% and then you can either burn it from the program or mount the image as an iso.

So do I burn just one of the files or both cause I have alcohol 120%. Do I have to use both the MDS and MDF file, or just one. Cause that really confuses me. The MDF one is like 700 mb and the MDF is like 487 bytes, less than one kilobyte.

If you're familiar with .bin & .cue files, the MDS is like the .cue file. Its instructions that tell Alcohol how to burn the MDF file.

You'll want to go into Alcohol and tell it to burn an image and then point it to your MDS file.

Alright thanks so I just choose the MDF file that I want to burn, and then I choose the MDS that shows how it burns alright thanks. Oh and Im not familiar with .bin and .cue But that isn't on topic.

Just use the burning wizard and select the MDS file dont worry about the rest as long as the MDF is in the same directory. Then burn it, if you have problems let us know.

is it 20 cds?

or are they just Rar'ed?

there are 2 cd's of this "item", 20 sets of mdf and mds files for each cd.
each set is in compressed files called
pirates1.001 through pirates1.043
along with a small file called pirates1.sfv
then the second cd has
pirates2.001 through pirates2.026
and a pirates2.sfv
Each set comes with a steaming pile of confusion!! 0_o

lol, you don't understand it I think. Each file with an extension from 001 to 043 is a part of a compressed file. Try winrar to decompress it, that's most likely the program used to compress it. In the end you'll see you have only one mds and one mdf file
TIP : to decompress it, just open up the first part of the archive (either .rar or .001), and use extract in winrar. Just make sure you have all parts in the same directory, coz if you don't, you'll end up with errors...

Sorry to bring this old topic again.Got exactly the same problem as MCFalcon. Tried to burn the image with Alcohol 120% but it says unregognised file format. Can anyone please tell me why? I have both the mds and the mdf files in the same directory. Any reply will be highly appreciated!

hi, i burned the .mds image using Alcohol 120% and i managed to install FM2006 but i cant get the game to load. when i load the .mds cd i burned to try and load the game it doesnt work. please can you tell me what to do

hay yaz, iv burned the mdf file on to disk bt i cant play the game still cus it comes up with an error message saying that emulation software has been detected.....help!! plez!!

Alcohol comes with a disc-drive emulator. Make sure it is disabled before running the game. Perhaps it's not the alcohol thingy that's triggering this though, maybe you have daemon-tools installed. Try quitting whatever disc-drive emulator you have on your computer before running the game.

hay thanks that fixed my emulation error but now a nother error coes up and says that i dont have the right disk! do i need to use the mds file for anything?

If the cd's are legit as in original copy you may need to use a No CD Fix from www.gamecopyworld.com and replace the startup .exe file.

Sorry if I'm reviving a dead thread already, but I have a major question.

Concerning the legit CD's. I'm *cough*tryingtoplayStarWarsBattlefront2*cough*.

I successfully put the .MDF file on a DVD, so I can use it as a CD.

Before I did the burn it gave me "Please insert the original StarWarsBattlefrontII CD" when I tried to play without the CD.

Now it gives me "Please insert CD1" when I place the burned .MDF in the CD/DVD drive.

So now I have the "wrong CD".

If I go to www.gamecopyworld.com and get it's startup.exe file, do I replace it in the game's directory or...? (Where do I replace it?)

ok i have an mdf and mds file and i burned the mds using alcohol 120%. Now instead of a game install cd (virtua tennis 2), i get a cd with four things
a folder entltled data
a folder entltled modules
a file called SLES_512.32
and a file called "system"

any ideas why this didnt' become an install cd. thanks

Just because you download a MDF file called virtua tennis 2, that doesent mean virtua tennis 2 will be there, it could be anythnig.

i cant get the drive to record, when i choose burn image it says " initiating drive" and then appears "dvd disc empy" and doesnt do anithing..just start counting, i've try with a lots of diferetns dvd discs but dont work! . i tried re installing and everything.. please help

Format your disc????? You're just sticking them in and trying to record? If it is like CD-Rs you have to set up a place to put things, format them in other words, dunno if that even as to be done but I think so and stand to be corrected by the wiser ones here. Hehehehe that SLES means "Sony Europe" SLUS would be "Sony USA" its either a PS1 or a PS2 game it would never work on your PC... sorry you wasted your bandwidth

got the program alchohol... burned the image using the wizard on a dvd-rw... but i cant seem to play it on my play station 2.

pleaaaaaaaaase help.. i'm a big street fighter fan.

If your PS2 is chipped or you use SwapMagic you can play it if not then you could try the old exploit but thats pretty hard and requires a friend with either a chip or swap magic lol also the exploit requires the removal of the top of your PS2 if you have the old style... the newer ones I have heard something about tape and a cut straw ??? anyway good luck with your search I have given all the information we are allowed to give on this site (Its for the best honestly) search for more information on google

ive downloaded a pc game and i got an mdf and an mds file. as u suggested here i used alcohol120% to burn it into a cd. i can install the game but i cant play it. when i insert the cd it starts the instalation wizard again. if i start the game from the shortcut it says that it cant find the cdrom. did i do sth wrong is the file has a problem??

Of course it can't find the CD Rom. It's a downloaded game. That's the copywrite protection keeping you from illegally playing the game.

any suggestions how to overcome this problem? any software or a tip?

Could someone tell me please how to get past the message "file not recognized" I have the MDF and MDS files in the same folder, but when I go to open up the MDS file it says "file type unrecognized" any help would be much appreciated.

i have a mds and a mdf file and when i open them in MagicISO it says "cant find the file or file isnt CD image file!"
when i open them in Alcohol it says that the file doesnt exit...
tried open them in PowerISO...doesnt work...
really frustrated and i need this for my school work...

So i have a .mdf and .mds file.
I tried alcohol 120% and added the .mds file, but when i go on the image burner wizard it says that the disc isn't big enough and is only 4.33 GB, when its actually 4.7GB and i've tried several different types of DVD.
I tried ISOBuster and it said that i didn't even have a DVD in the drive. Could anyone help me please?
