lol yes... Anyway I have like 3 working monitors and 2 non working monitors lol I have one 19 Inch one that kind of works (I dont use it becouse once in a while it will like make a pop sound and the screen will hmmm wiggle for like 1/32 of a second....) the monitors I use are all like 17 inch CRT's (probably like 15-16 inch viewable) The computer in the living that I let everyone use has a 17 inch monitor but the resolution maxes out at like 600X800. The monitor on my main computer is a nice one the resolution maxes out at like 1600X1256 at 50Hz but I keep it at like 1024X768@72Hz lol

I have 2 CRT 19" monitors one is Viewsonic and the other is from NEC both are awesome and I would never buy an LCD monitor... or at least not till they get better
Deftone
better ? how bout plasma?

i'm pretty satisfied with the way LCD is going.... if u get a samsung tft LCD monitor, u know u got some good quality there.
actz
I'm talking about frame rate for gaming is usually pretty poor or way too expensive.

And there is that whole smearing thing (although they keep getting better with that one all the time) The problem I have with LCD tech is that a good CRT will outlast ANY LCD lol and that whole dead pixel thing is a major turn off and thats something you would never see on a CRT... on the plus side a LCD takes up about 1/10th the space lol I want a Plasma screen TV I havent heard any problems with Plasma that is asociated with LCD tech. Do they make Plasma screen monitors for computers ?
Deftone
apparently they are now..

on another note i forgot to mention i do have a 17" crt flat from Samsung. Its pretty good cept with the moving it seems to have acquired a small splotch on the screen in the upper right hand corner which cant be taken away..im afraid it might be for good

EDIT:

Not to be hard-headed or anything (which i am hehee) but I just ran mark3D03 on my system with the CRT monitor and it didnt influence the FPS one bit. I scored the same. What i did seem to notice , much in the opposite direction of where u guys are going, is that the graphics were actually more jagged in the CRT compared to the way they looked on the LCD. I think LCD is pretty good if u can get it anywhere from 17 inch and above and from a good brand like Samsung.

what resolution are you running the test on & it all depends what quality CRT you have of course (.xx aperture grille etc) anyways this isn’t really a personal opinion coz I've never really had a LCD monitor but I've read many times the same thing and its stuck in my head now. LCD monitors seem to have come a long way since they first started to appear so i'm sure in the next year they will be bigger better and hopefully cheaper.
Deftone
1024 x 768 resolution (since hte LCD is 15 inch this is the most i can do)
Texture Filtering - Optimal
Ran all tests.

CRT is Samsung FLat monitor SyncMaster 765mb 17"
LCD is Philips 15"
SuranWrap
I have a 21 inch CRT.
but it wasnt on the list so i put 23.

I love it. like Actz... i would never use an LCD.
Deftone
well, I think an LCD aint much worth it unless u go for 17" or above and it has to be a good quality one. However, i also think that you cant really judge something if you've never actually tried it.

LCDs are also better for your eyes.

It doesn't influence FPS at all (only the video card and the rest of the computer have any effect on that - the monitor is a totally passive component). What he was saying was the problem of LCD pixel refresh time. LCDs physically cannot update the image on the screen as quickly as CRTs and this leads to game "ghosting" or "streaking". Since the LCD can't update as fast as the game motion is moving, the framerate appears to blur or slow down. Newer LCDs have lessened this but strictly speaking it still isn't as good as a CRT.

This isn't always true. This goes back to the same issue as above. Crappy CRTs (read: dell 15" bargain basement) had low refresh rates. CRTs constantly draw a new picture on the screen many times a second. This causes a flicker that can bother the eyes if that rate isn't very high. Even crappy LCDs don't have this problem because the pixels are just always on.

That said, better CRTs don't have this problem and are very easy on the eyes. I can stare at my IBM P275 21" CRT all day (and do) and my eyes don't get tired of bothered at all.

One of the big problems I have noticed with some people comparing CRTs to LCDs is that they compare the crappy dell $500 PC CRT to a decent 17" LCD. Of course it is better; the LCD monitor probably cost more than the computer it is hooked up to! laugh.gif

Color reproduction is also not as good with LCDs. They are getting better but they can't produce every single color perfectly whereas a CRT can.

LCDs are of course MUCH smaller and easier to move. They also consume much less power than CRTs.

It is all a matter of what is important to you. I like games and lots of photoshopping, so the color reproduction and refresh rates of CRTs are more important to me. Also I can get a really nice 21" CRT for the cost of a 17" LCD.

EDIT: This poll is defninetly missing 20-21" CRTs. Most big ones are this size. 22 and 23" are rare.

Well i currently have a 17" LCD. But i really really want some kind of big screen, aparently a good idea is to get a HD TV and use it as a center monitor and then 2 cheap 17" crts for 2 and 3 on either side.

I just love those big Apple monitors though ohmy.gif

I think on the new poll (the one about what new tech interests you) that PCi, Dual core CPU's and 1TB DVD's are going to make an awsome combination... *drools* I can only imagine the aps yet to be designed that will take advantage of all that... Games that will have games inside them and DVD quality FMV scenes (maybe with good acting some day..) or maybe some one will finaly make a disc that contains the movie AND the tie in game a sort of box set with one DVD if you will smile.gif wouldnt that be cool ? or they could put these trilogy movies on one disc !

Edit: This is weird its a link to this post under the polls smile.gif
