Hey all,
Just thought I would introduce Qnext into the community...it's a free download at www.qnext.com.
This app has interoperable IM (AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ), file sharing, video conferencing, photo sharing, online games, remote PC access, file transfers, and voice calls. All in one interface....like taking Trillian, Skype, Netmeeting, GoToMyPC and smashing them altogether. Very cool. Its a Java product and Qnext runs on Windows & Linux.
PC Mag gives it a nice review at

Cons: Doesn't run all that well on older machines. You'll need at least a 500-MHz Pentium III and 128MB of memory—maybe more. |
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1638931,00.aspSeems to have a pretty high requirement for an IM program...But I guess since it does so many things...It's understandable. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah....
IM is sort of just the surface of Qnext. The real deal is in all of the services that hang-off the IM. It's how you share content & services with your online friends on a permission basis that is really cool. Everything is 192-bit encrypted from end-to-end so the security is very tight on shared content.
Try out the drag & drop file transfers. I could drop a file of any size....no restrictions at all and its true end-to-end P2P.
Qnext is Java-based, so the memory requirements are higher but you can't really compare this straight up to other IM's as it is an altogether different type of software. I believe this is the direction that IM will go in the future.

From your original post I was under the impression that Qnext can be used to communicate with people on different IMs....
Am I thinking correctly? Cuz I can't figure out how to add someone from ICQ.
EDIT: Nevermind...I'm blind. For others...Remember to look to the bottom right corner of the program window...I just don't get why it wasn't in the top left corner...under like..."add" or something and then let me choose the IM program I want to add from...etc.

Give the UI a try and let me know what you think.
Logging in under the Add section wouldn't make much sense from a user-flow perspective. The current UI follows the same concept as Trillian, except log-in sections are denoted by YM, AIM, MSN & ICQ.

I think the program does have many pros...But I don't think my computer should take a performance hit while I play games because of an IM program...which is what happened last two times when I was playing games. I don't get that problem when I run both ICQ and MSN together....

I love this program! It has finally replaced my countless IM programs. However I find 3 issues with it:
1. Java tech seems to make it slow down from time to time, like it freezes in the middle of me typing a message (similar error on go.icq.com since its run on java)
2 . Im connected to all 4 IM programs, but on the AIM and the ICQ one it through me this error that it couldnt log in to the database, coz of invalid password (which is not possible since i know them by memory) and then it still logged me in so i could see my online list lol.
3. I tried searchign for files and found nothing..something u have to setup for this before u do so?
EDIT: I suggest the entire GN community gets on this program and we set up a few groups for us to share files with each other and chat. I think that would be kinda neat.

Hey Deftone,
Glad you like Qnext! I will check into the Messenger to see if there is a bug and if so, it will be fixed. If you encounter any other problems just go to the feedback in the UI as this goes directly to the developers.

so I noticed

I sent em a suggestion though...coz I think (maybe I just didnt see it in the options ) there is no way to change ur existing nickname for each IM account...meaning the last nick i put on msn stays forever in Qnext unless i open MSn and change it.

I got an issue with this as well....
Its really slow .I left the prog on for a bit and went to do my own things and when i came back my whole comp was really slow... Does it really need to suck memory that much???> My alloted page file size for virtual memory is already at 1536 mb ....i got 2.4Ghz with 1gb of DDR ram... dun get it.

however it doesnt seem to happen so bad for say Psychotic who also tried it out and he has half my ram, which is odd.. Now it seems to be working okay but sometimes it gets stuck while im typing programs and then continues on.

Def, what version of Java runtime environment are you using? Because I'm running a fairly new one, and that might be the factor that causes my computer to use less RAM when using a java proggie. It's just a suggestion, but try updating your Java runtime environment.
