First of all, I corrupted my entire contents of my Windows system directory about a day ago. Now I'm trying to install all the drivers and what not I need, and I come up with something quite humorous (and it REALLY sucks at the same time):

Ok, I'm installing my audio drivers and such. I open device manager and check out my sound card:

Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA

This device is working properly.

If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter.

Ok, with that one out of the way, I open up "dxdiag"

Device: Realtek AC'97 Audio
Hardware Acceleration Level - Full
- To test DirectSound functionality, click the "Test DirectSound" button above.
- No problems found

Ok, all good there. Now, here's the funny part. I run the test:

QUOTE
"DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)"

No driver?!?! I just installed the freakin' thing! Maybe it's just dxdiag... so, I run Windows Media Player, DivX Player, Winamp, and Volume Control. All come up with a similar error...

QUOTE
"No driver installed"...

Now, is that funny or what?

Ok... any ideas?

omg omg omg.......... I am such a noob... this is going to Geek Humor...

On Windows 2003, when you freshly install, there's an option under "Sounds and Audio Devices" called....

.......Enable Audio..........

Edit - By the way.... my audio works now...

I used MANY of the advanced features of a sever OS such as Active Directory, IIS, DNS, Routing and Remote Access... ect.... I just made one little noob mistake... Come on now, you all can laugh at me this time tongue.gif

what's funny is that you just solved your own prob...lol, we all do stupid stuff. now we just wait until this is locked...
GTX5_Crusader
Well... I thought someone would find it funny about how simple the answer was, yet how much trouble it caused (plus the error messages that were caused)...

...But I guess I was wrong... oh well...
