Well at first I really was dedicated to buying an iPod but a friend of mine began to tell me tons of stuff about the battery not lasting very long, if it dies you have to get a whole new iPod

.
iPod's run between $300-$500 I believe

. I found out about the NoMad when I purchased it and started telling me how much better it is than the iPod. He started rambling on about its cheaper, the battery last long (is replacable)

. I just don't know which is a better buy

.

Id say the iPod (4th generation) is a much better buy. If im right the Nomad is 1.5 GB, while the iPod mini is 4 GB. With the mini your battery life will be around 8 hours, while with the 20 and 40 gigs its around 12 hours. You will have to replace the iPod battery once in 2.5-8 yrs depending on your usage and this costs around 100 USD or less i think.
The iPod interface is way better than the Nomad and has more features. But i believe the Nomad is slightly cheaper and it boils down to the budget. IMO the iPod is better than the Nomad

Does your friend by chance have a NoMad?
One of the biggest things about the 4G iPod was the improvement of battery power and general life. But if you have problem with the battery then you can replace it, you can get them quite reasonable priced on sites. Some people use them as replacements, others have 2 batteries to extend listening time.

It was true for a while that the batteries died after like 1 year now I guess they are better also the price to replace them used to be like 150$ I think there are different brands of batteries for it now but im not sure ?

here is a simple chart to solve your problem:
ipod/mini ipod > all other mp3 players

I dont think its possible to switch iPod batteries yourself (without voiding the warranty), but there is this cool add on which connects to the charging port and acts as an external battery.

My only problem with the IPod is that its less durable than the Nomad. Seeing that the Ipod is a hard drive based system, it would be more susceptible to crashes. Whereas the Nomad, being a digital based system would survive more damage/wear. Plus the screen on the Ipod is really easy to scratch.
Really it comes down to...how clumsy are you?
Summary: Although the Nomad has less capacity, its more durable and I would suggest it over the IPod.

well, you can replace the batteries in an iPod but as anakinsolois said, it will void the warranty. also, the iPod seems to scratch easily. but if you can aford the iPod and the cover for it the i would probaly go for the iPod.

The mini iPod is a bit more scratch resistant as ive found, especially since it doesnt have the same metallic back the others do

iPod is just great. Now the price has gone down and u can get a 20gb one from apple for $300 and engrave ur name on the back with laser (or whichever phrase u want) so its better than getting it off some other store.
I think it being a hard drive is quite handy since u can pretty much keep anything on it and u can just take it places which makes it rather useful. And i need that much space for my songs

to get your name ingraved on the back you just have to order it online and its one of the options while you order... anyways as for your question I would say ipod over any other mp3 player I've had mine for the past 8 months and just love it. Not only does it look great its honestly a quality product and from the first day you will feel like you made a good decision. I've droped mine loads of times and it seems to always bounce back without a problem. The only bad thing is how the battery can decrease as you use it but I still stick with the ipod and say its the best way to enjoy your collection of mp3's on the go.

Do you have to pay extra to have you name engraved on the back, and since you say the battery dies the more you use it, are there ways of replacing it with out having to pay so much

?

Yeah you can get third party batteries now and do it yourself (its not easy though) relativly cheap

I actualy wish they would use normal AA batteries and then you could use your own rechargebles... kinda makes replaceing them alot easyer lol

U don't pay more for the engraving, its just the plus of ordering it from Apple.com instead of any other place.

heh. I dun think Apple has ever made something thats easy on ppl to change (in terms of hardware, its been rather rigid all along...thats why pcs went so cheap and wide, coz they could fit in almost any system coz all the parts were generic)
