I desperately need monitors for my decks. Now I was wondering whether I should get actual monitor speakers or just use an amp with conventional speakers.
Btw. I do get this right don't I?: monitor speakers have an amp built-in, so they can be directly connected to the mixer's Line Out?
I guess quality-wise it all depends on the speakers, no matter whether it's "monitors" or not. But what are the actual advantages of monitor speakers?

what exactly do you need speakers for? Our english seems to be different in ways so I'm not sure if "decks" refer for audio systems or computers. If you mean computers, then the speakers attached to a monitor are never all that great. Standalone speakers are made to be much better and more often than not come with a subwoofer to really add nice rich bass.

I think it's better to get computer speakers...But don't settle for speakers that come with the monitor...they usually suck.
I'm recommending computer speakers over normal speakers....Because I think normal speakers aren't magnetically safe for computers. Something about the possibility of really screwing your computer if the speakers are too close to it. Having said that though, I have been able to place one of my computers fairly close to a speaker while I watch DivX movies on TV...But I remove my computer from that area right after I watch the movie.

I agree with Kenut. Most monitor speakers do suck.

I have 2 decent sized stereo speakers right next to my monitor all the time, only thing you want to avoid is having the back pointed at the screen, thats what could cause problems, otherwise you dont need to worry about any damage.

If you start seeing red, green, blue, or any other color on the screen that shoudn't be there... move the speaker away.
