Today, I experienced a small downtime... I was afraid someone hacked the server. Again. What happened?

I called our hosting company this morning to see why GN had timeout on the server but they told me it would be back up within 3 min. Since I was in the middle of something else I didnt ever question what was going on but they knew it was GN as soon as i called so it may have been maintenance reboot hmmm

Yeah I noticed a little slowdown in the access too but I just thought it was Shareaza eating up my bandwidth then I throttled it a bit and still no news !!!! But im glad my favorite page on the web is still here

I've noticed it down for about 2.5 hours I checked at 12pm today and it's now 3:30pm... And I can now get on

Maybe a simple DoS attack, those are always fun,

DoS = Denial of Service

i know what a DoS is,a DDoS is a distributed denial of service

ahh the good thing about living half way round the world....if something happens to the site, its normally fixed by the time i wake up

I'm on Geeknewz just about 24/7 (I get on after work, 6:30am, stay on until about 7am, sleep, go to school, get back on at 12:30pm at school, get off at 3:30, get back on at 4:45, get off at 9pm before work . Basically, 6:30am-7am, 12:30pm-3:30pm, 4:45pm-9pm. If I don't work, then 4:45pm-4am), so I noticed it. Mainly with the 12:30pm-3:30pm part....

Sad part is... the schedual rarely changes...

I also noticed the downtime, for me it was down for about..3-4 hours, it was annoying, i had a few good news posts then! Ah, nevermind.
