Im thinking about upgrade my memory in this computer and seen this I was just wondering if anyone has seen some better ram around the same price or what not ?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...%20PT&CatId=155

I dont have a dual channel mobo but I like the idea of being able to get 1GB in one place and have it match and at a higher speed then I can run it (my mobo only does DDR266 officialy....) I want to OC my CPU more but im using some cheapy generic ram and thought this might be a good replacment smile.gif

im not sure if this is what you want, but it is 1GB spread out over 4x128mb sticks
http://store.yahoo.com/digi4me/ge1g1drtyddr.html price on that is $127,but read the catch at the top of the page, anyway try pricewatch.com

1. 4x128MB does not equal 1GB

2. That RAM doesn't even support Intel/AMD chipsets

DDR266, ouch. I'm not sure but can you use DDR400 in a 266 motherboard? I guess you can use Dual Channel ram in a non-DC board, you just won't get the same effects.

I'm not quite sure what ram specifications you're looking for, so I just made some quick searches and got you these for now:
$223 DDR-266 (1x1GB)
$205 DDR-400 (2x512)
$192 DDR-400 (2x512)

You could refine your searches if you knew more exactly what you were looking for. Try newegg.com or pricewatch.com, those are my favorites. I only used newegg for this search.

at least read it correctly and not state things that arent true. Most chipsets dont support 4 dimms... not that brand of ram thats all the site says and it is true. As far as ddr400 working in a ddr266 board of course it'll work it'll just be clocked down unless overclocked. I'd definately use newegg to purchase like za suggested and might as well go for 2 dimms for when you upgrade (I know you will) and get into dual channel. Corsair XMS is about 40 bucks more than the value select and OCZ is also good priced on newegg.

btw the yahoo store memory stuff just means it has 4 chips on the memory dimm. I'm not sure where the 4x128 = 1 gig thing comes from but its a dimm with 4 chips on the dimm itself. And those are very incompatible with most boards (including mine). So I'm not sure if its 2 512 with 4x128mb dimms, I dunno.. that page kinda sucks heh, not sure what its sellin. I doubt its a gig for 100 bucks though. Probably just a 4 module 512mb dimm or somethin

I'd definitely go for the dual-channel 2x512 DDR-400 then since, as Troa34 said, when you upgrade your motherboard then it will support Dual Channel. Not to mention it's cheaper than the DDR-266.

Yeah dual channel just means the ram has been tested in a dual channel set up and is definatly compatible with a dual channel mobo smile.gif DDR is DDR wether it dual channel or what speed yeah my mobo only oficialy supports up to DDR266 but I can OC the ram wayyy beyond that if I have some high speed chips hmm at least I think it should prove interesting I will probably order some ram next week and test it out (if it works im going to use my old ram in my kids computer) lol at least I know the timmings will be alot better DDR400 modules at DDR266 I could definatly run the timmings super tight !!!
