Full Version: Serious Scientific Question #3

I do not know how I'm remembering all these things tonight, and I'm NOT looking any info up. This is all my own thoughts.

Does time really exsist as a "thing"? Or is it just something manmade used for better organization?

Based on time, are there other dimensions of time that are different from our own reality? Basically, for every decision we make in our lives, we are meant to go down one path in a specific dimension. But, what if every OTHER decision that we COULD'VE made creates another dimension of time that leads down the path of the decision we could've made? In otherwords, in another dimension I could be a rich multi-billion dollar stock holder in a mansion with a cool car, and in another I could be out on the streets in a box.
There are several TV shows I've seen that have this idea (which is where I got this question from); Star Trek and Stargate SG-1 both have episodes that rea;ate with this different dimension therory. Is it just a manipulation of time? Or is there another means to it?

Pushing into that also starts a debate of time travel: At first I believed that time travel into the future, but not to the past, was possible, but now I don't. I do not believe that speed is a factor in which time can be manipulated. If one were to travel above 186,000 miles a second, how could that change time? (BTW, I just thought: Wasn't there an expirament done where two seperate clocks, both identical in time and type, were used in a shuttle flight to test this? NASA had one clock, and the shuttle had another. The shuttle flew at very high speeds, and when it landed, the two clock's times were compared... though I don't remember the outcome... ever hear of this?)

My head feels like axesmiley.gif ..... I'm going to stop now...

I have heard of this and yes the time differential was noticed although minute and very small the clock in the orbiter was behind the one on the ground GPS satalites have to do some tricky math to accomidate this effect. GPS works by calculating the time it takes for a signal to come in from at least 3 satalites. By mesuring the time that the signal arives from 3 points you can get your exact location. As for time travel its probably going to happen in theory its possible now we just dont have the tech to harness the required amounts of energy. You need to read this book "A Breif history of Time" It has all this stuff in it. Just know that some of the stuff in it is slightly outdated and has been replaced with newer theory.

Edit: The faster you go the slower time moves in relation to the universe. So you could travel into the future if you went fast enough but it would be a one way trip. Travel backwards in time would be another thing im not sure how you would do that one... I hear its possible in thoery tho smile.gif

time does exist as a thing................the manmade side is what we choose to call it.....
